Sled Decks - how do climb onto them?

Ok, for those sled deck owners with single rear wheel trucks (as opposed to duallies), how do you get from the ground to the top of the deck when you need to fuel up, work on the sled, etc?

I know with a duallie, it is possible to step onto the outside tire, then grab something on the sled and pull/step up onto the deck. I can't visualize how it is done without a duallie?

go to the back, grab a sled bumper and awkwardly jump and try to get a foot up without eating sh*t, then pull yourself up. then look around the gas station parking lot to make sure no one is laughing at you...somethin like that:crazy:

Depends if you have a short box or long box. Long box, drop the tail gate. Short box... drop tailgate and then see post from Skisucca.

Run race gas so its fueled up before you put it on the deck. only need to stop at the station for diesel!!!

I've got a dually long bed with a dovetail style deck, I usually drop the tail gate, grab the dove tail and start climbing from the trailer hitch ball.

Short bed here, I tried getting up from the back like a gymnist on the rings. Uh....YouTube material.

Best way for me is to put a foot on the back tire and grab the outside rail on the deck and pull my self up. Make sure your pants aren't too baggy though! I can usually just put the fuel pump nozzle in the rail opening on the side, climb up and fuel away. It was all awkward at first, but now I have it down.

grab the bumper and swing on up... works good when your 20 and halfway a monkey... otherwise. tailgate down and be careful!! heck, I have almost eaten it pretty good doign my trick... for gas stations, pull up so you can hop on the cement pillars on either side of the pump, usually like 2' tall they work great as stepping stones.

steppin up to the deck

I have a homemade deck on a long box. I put the tailgate down and put a knee up on the tailgate while pulling myself up to the dovetail. Works real well for me. The best idea I've seen is a 4' step ladder and you walk right up to the dovetail and step on it to the deck. Just a thought.
Who knows, maybe a hanging ladder like your ski boat has. Hah!!
If you end up doing a header off of it, make sure your buddy has the lense cap off the camera. :face-icon-small-hap

sled bed

i have a 4 door so i open up the rear door stand on the door jamb and put one hand on top of the door and the other on the corner of the cab and push up and then put swing my feet up on the sled bed it works for me
