Sled-Deck on a Toyota Tacoma??

Has anyone ever done this before? I just bought a tacoma and was wondering if it would be possible. I'm capeable of welding aluminum so I could fabricate a deck to make it fit but was wondering also about weight issues?:confused: If anyone has ever seen this or done this let me know, Thanks.

Single or a 2 place? There was a ford commercial posted on here once about about the four major brands durability, I think it was ruled that a Toyota would be no good with a sled deck. Don't get me wrong Toyota is a great truck, weight is something that can be dealt with but the box itself poses a lil concern.

I would love to see that! Im sure with enough engineering know how you could get a deck in there with 2 sleds. but the real question is how are you going to keep the front tires on the ground?:o:o If you ever do it you have to post pics!!

First check your load capacity. Should be in your manual. Then figure 2 sleds weigh 1300 pounds or more wet, the deck weight probably 300-400, plus gear, and passengers. Are you within your capcity which I doubt you would be. Not sure on the toyotas but my last F150 was under 2000#s. If you do go that way make sure to add heavier tires and air bags or its gonna sway like crazy when the wind hits you.

Do a up and over the cab deck smilar to a car hauler. Bet that would look awsome.

Just like XXXMODRODS did with their cadillac haha that would be pretty cool! I might try to fabricate a sled deck for it later on this fall after we get done with harvest and seeding so if i do end up doing it I'll post some pics! :D

Single sled deck of course....double no.

There are nice setups for Tacoma single decks, the best way is an alum. deck with an alum. platform underneath it to raise it above the wheel wells, because Taco wheel wells are too narrow for some sleds. But the truck is simply too small for a double sled deck of any type IMO.

I have a Tundra and would not put a sled deck on it even with air bags and e rated tires. Could it handle the weight, absolutely, could you run into problems in the even of a serious accident, absolutely....Its not worth the risk in my opinion....One sled goes in the bed, two sleds and I get the trailer out.....Open trailers are pretty light and easy to move around.....if you have to, they can be disconnected and turned around on the trail...

yota?

If you don't care you can cut her up and extend the wheel base. 1 ton motorhome leafsprings should take care of the weight load. I aligned mine at home with string and it steers perfect.

I have hauled two sleds on mine and it does just fine. 1 m1000 and 1 rmk 700 loaded backwards.

Isnt a tundra suposed to be a half ton? I have an 08 f150 with air bags and i haul sleds on the deck all winter no problem, dont even really feel them back there with just 40lbs in the bags.

What is your hauling capacity? I am sure you are way over it. I am not saying you can't do it or that the vehicle will not handle it but you are certainly over the rated cargo capacity (definitely with the Tundra and I assume the ford)

Got a set of Firestone ride rite air bags on my dads 07 f150 with the 5.4L motor. cant even tell the sleds are there accelerating, you can kinda tell when slowing down and it is just legal. Make sure you don't bring an extra feather along with you because you might go over the GVW with that added cargo. Friend of mine putts 2 sled on his t100 and hes running 35" tires. feels like its got about 3hp and needs a football field to stop but it does it ahaha. chucked a couple on my ranger too and it was scary. The 4L motor makes lotsa power but the sag was incredible. Just went around the block...... If the tacos got the 4.0 in it you woult have a power issue but should def get some super springs or airbags or somthing.:beer;

I wouldn't put a sled deck in a tacoma. Seen a tacoma on the road up the mountain, it had a two place sled deck in it, they were missing a wheel the studs broke clean off. The truck just about slide of the edge of the road and down the mountain.
