i want to put some clearance lights on my deck and also some cargo lights for under the deck on a switch. i am wondering what is the best way to wire them up and also can i just run a plug in to my trailer light hookup for power? i was thinking 3 clearance lights for sure on each side and the cargo lights. i am electrically challenged so dont be afraid to elaborate.
thanks

I had to do some wiring on my deck after I got it this summer to get it the way I wanted it. I hooked up the clearance lights to a 4-way trailer plug and made the pig-tail long enough to reach the plug on the hitch (my truck has both 4 pin and 7 pin plug-ins)

As for a loading or cargo light, I have those wired in through a separate switch in the cab of the truck that I also use for my tool box for my work tools. Basically I have it set up coming off the battery through an in-line fuse and into a switch on the dash, then back to the front of the bed of the truck to my toolbox. I wired up the deck to have the loading and cargo lights with a single wire to the front to plug into that source. With the lights set up this way, I can have the switch out of harms way where it cannot get damaged from cargo and I can flip on the loading light at any time going down the road if I want to check on the sleds. ( The cab guard on my deck lines up perfectly with the cargo light of my truck, completely blocking it:rolleyes: )

If you dont want to go through the effort of adding in a line from the front of the truck, I would suggest tapping into the same line you use for the running lights, and mounting up a switch in a relatively protected spot under the deck.

Just depends how much time you want to spend and what you want to end up with.:beer; Good luck

i have my side marker lights come out the back on each side with a quick conector on them and my under deck lights i have 2 that are hooked to a switch that are all come together and go in to my trailer power so the deck lights come on when i hit the switch at the back inside the deck.
