sled deck decking

is there a better option than using plywood? with all these new trailers coming out with flooring that is plastic coated and carbide resistant, plywood cant be the only option.

the best thing to do whatever you put down would be to run strips of plastic bedliner over everything, cuz its cheap, easy to replace, then you swap a few screws when it wears out, not the whole decking... you could try a composite sheeting, something like they use on outdoor skateboard parks... might be a thought.

but the stripping is always nice, makes it last a LOT longer and easy to load.

I was thinking about taking some 3/8 ply, add a few stiffening ribs and putting a layer of fiberglass on both sides and sealing the edges & any holes with resin.

I would be real hesitant to put plastic ALL over the deck. That stuff (bedliners, multiglides, UHMW, etc.) is made to be slick and then you add a little snow to it and you will fall on your head - from a real long way up. Don't do it! I run good quality treated plywood and simple Caliber multiglides.

That is a long way to slip and fall from!!!

I just use treated plywood with strips of an old bedliner for the carbides.

My deck is farly new, but my dad's been using the same thing for 15 years and it looke like it will last another 15 years at this rate.

This is with trips at least once a weekend from December through April, so at least 80 loading cycles a year.

Full Lotus decks

We recognized the same issue years ago when we designed our decks. So we use a texturized composite plastic on all of our decks. The carbides do not affect it, it is not slippery, it doesn't rot, it doesn't warp. It is the best material to use as decking that's why we use it on our decks.

Thanks
