This time of year, everyone is starting to think again about the snow and what the upcoming sledding season has in store for us.
And for some of us, we are still trying to forget last season, especially those embarrassing moments.
I thought it would be fun to start a thread of those "crash and burn" events some of us had last season.
I had one of those moments up in the U.P of Michigan last winter. I was riding with my 16 year old son, an off trail guide and a buddy of his.
We were sitting taking a break, when my smart @ss son says, "Dad, you ride like an old man, you never do any aggressive riding anymore. YOu can barely keep up!!"
Well as we started riding again, I thought to myself that he is right! I need to get back to pushing it again. Not more than a minute later, we headed down a power line that had no tracks on it. Up ahead I saw a really steep hill and I thought I would hit it hard and get some air time. So I rip up this hill and hit the top of the steep rise, got some big air not knowing that there was a set of powerline poles right in my path. (You could not see them from the bottom of the hill at all)
As the guy wire was approaching me at a very high rate of speed, I made the split second decision not to ride it out, and I kicked myself off the sled. The bellypan hit the guy wire exactly in the middle and the sled rode the guy wire up for about 15', then the sled flipped to the side and caught the ski and the sled settled back down with the rear of the tunnel on the snow.
We had quite a laugh and my crew suggested that I should change the oil in the sled since it was up in the air already.......
The only casualty was a slightly bent a-arm.
I am back to riding like a grandma, just along to pay the fuel/hotel/oil/food bill and keep my son from doing something STUPID!! LOL
Ok that was my embarrassing moment, anyone else care to share theirs?
