Sled cops on Cedar Mtn.

Just a warning to those that are sledding on Cedar Mtn. east of Cedar City. I ran into forest service sled cops for the second weekend in a row. This time I had a sled with me that has not been registered and they nabbed my friend that was riding it. Too bad I had stopped at the top a hill top help a guy fix one of his steering arms.
Theere were at least 5 of them up there and the two that saw me just happended to be the same two that checked my sled last week.(I didn't have my unregistered with me then). They also said that the "feds" were up on the mountian too.:confused: They acted like a terrorist is loose at Cedar Breaks. I think they are looking for enough revenue to cover the price of their new polaris sleds.:rolleyes: Funny thing is that there were only 3 trucks parked on top when we got there. It was snowy and low visability. These two that stopped me(twice) come up from Page, AZ.
Anyway, I knew better and my second sled stays home until I get the title from my uncle. These guys say they plan on being there all winter. I had to take may medicine today. Just a warning for those that might head up there!;)

i helped a couple "sled cops" today, i pay my chit and "do the right thing".....so i got nothing to worry about:beer;

I also help the forest service folks to walk and cut down trees in AF....this kind act will go along way

About warning folks with no reg.....i say screw em, pay for the trail grooming or stay at home and do donuts around the house:beer;

Well Hatch you must live in a perfect world. Last year my friend drove my 2006 rev into a cliff and totaled it on a Saturday. So I went down to pick up my 2006RMK that another friend demolished when it had 45 miles on it(rolled it down that hill on Gardsmans pass) and got it runnin so we could ride Sunday. Of course I got a ticket Sunday and registration never crossed my mind cause I did not expect to have that sled out. My point sh*t happens. On a positive note. This year I decided I would break my sleds without my friends help. Also Hatch I hear your a good machanic on these damn machines so I could use your help on a weekly basis. Cheers.

Hatch, that's the point of the warning. Hopefully, more people register and help pay for your groomed trails. The cops wanted me to send a warning. This is the first year I have seen anyone patrol this mountain on snowmobile.

BTW they didn't give an invitation to help cut any trees.:D

we used to go all season without registering certain older sleds that were just a nuisance but last few years we get checked so often that I never take unreg sleds to areas where I know the fishcops patrol. Whats gay is it seems grooming is down and tickets are up. I called my local ranger office and told them they need to keep the grooming up if they are going to enforce regs like they are.

The funny thing about Cedar Mtn. is that I saw more fishcops(5+) than snowmobilers that day. I have been checked at Wasatch Mtn. and I have seen them checking at the top of Fairview before but there are far more snowmobilers there. Cedar Mtn. typically is has far less traffic. I was surprised to see so many up there in bad weather conditions.
My guess is that state wide and likely nation wide there are a lot less snowmobile registrations tis year due to economic woes. I would bet they have seen a drop in revenue and are they are cutting back on grooming and bumping up the fines.
BTW does anyone know how much my ticket will be?:confused:

It's about creating Revenue

Stop being so naive Snatchers! It's almost entirely about generating revenue. Consider the health of the economy. State and local government is under increasing scrutiny and at any point, they could lose funding. Which means, loss of jobs. The "over patrolling" is not exclusive to the woods/trails of the back country. Drive up/dn I-15 all day and you'll see local towns patrolling sections of the HWY that cut through their towns. Legal yes, but not necessary considering all of the poor drivers present in all the small towns that I-15 runs through.
Another great example: in NH, northern NH, where there are units, not towns, fishcops would be out hiding under white tarps with radar guns. They would set up radar/speed traps where there were no other riders, no roads, no lights, no kids. It was about generating revenue, justifying a state salary.
Unfortunately, in NH, the ticket would go on your drivers license! As a group of 30+ yo men, we collectively decided, to discontinue stopping for Fishcops for speeding! The cost of evading them was cheaper than most of the tickets they were handing out.. We were all registered, law obiding (most of the time:D) and always, always showed respect for others on the trails when present.
Long story short, don't kid yourself! it's not about safety, containing terrorist or illegal immigrants.. it's about self preservation! if they want to really make an impact: go out and catch an illegal immigrant before they molest a child or kill one of the 12 americans that will die every day at the hands of immigrants in our own country!:mad:

PEACE
