Used to skydive, but haven't for quite awhile. It is an awesome experience, and would like to start doing it again, but wife, kids, money, etc. etc. At least I have the memories. As far as how I would do it, for your first jump go static line. You need more hours of training, but it is worth it. This way you can go solo, a much better experience than tandem. When I was active, you had to do so many static line jumps, before you could do a freefall jump to get your license. I think it was six or seven total jumps to get the license. After that you just have to find someone with a plane, and you can pick up a used chute for around 1500 to 2 grand. Once you get the license & equipment it is (was) a fairly cheap hobby. Cheaper than snowmobiling actually. It is a rush like no other. I did it when I lived in Nebraska, don't know who around your area. The closest to me is a place down in Longmont, CO....they just had a tandem jump fail and the trainer and trainee were killed.

The kids were watching some show on Nick the other night and they were at a sky diving school. The instructor had the directions on a black board.

I started getting into it about 6 or 7 years ago. We had to make 2 tandom jumps, before they would let us go solo. I only made 6 solo jumps, then had a bad experiance. Didn't eat all day, and took one of those diet pills before I went up. Once I got up to elevation, and jumped I blacked out for a little bit. Luckily my buddy who was an instructor with me, and pulled my cord for me. Needless to say, I haven't jumped since. It's an awesome rush climbing out of a airplane at 12,000'. You can pm Brad Story too, he's an instructor still I think. He took me for the 1st time.

Most tandem jumps range from $165-200 depends on location. The tandem jump is good to do if your thinking about getting a certified, it will lesson the fear and give you a idea of what it's gonna feel like when your hanging out side of the airplane with 2 instructors AFF (Accelerated Free Fall), but the tandem is not required. Most jumps are made from 12,500 ft (agl ) above ground level which is 17,500 ( msl ) main see level. There is a drop zone in SD, skydive adventures (605)271-5631, and theres one in MT, skydive lost prairie 35 miles west of kalispell (406)858-24930).There is mile hi skydiving center in longmont Co. yup, tons of it here in the Flathead...come on up and holler when in town (after the jump) and we will buy you an adult beverage...if jump is not successful, let us know where to send the toasts to :)
