skinz bumper again

I'm ordering a skinz bumper today and was wondering if anyone can tell me if the hood bolts up in the same way as the piece of crap stock one? Do I need anything else besides what comes with the bumper? My friend put one on his 700 and said it was easy and an awesome bumper. Looks good too. Thanks.

Bolts right in, just need basic hand tools (combo wrenches, utility knife, rivet gun). The airbox on the 900 may be an issue that the rest of us didn't have to deal with though. Have you already removed the factory bumper? You'll wonder how it ever stayed on after seeing the crappy design. Good luck with the installation and I don't remember needing anything else beside the parts that came with it (good instructions and pics included).

Everything you need will be in the kit. When I put mine on last summer, it was straightforward, but you might need an extra pair of hands to help with the lower bolts depending on how tight your plastics fit to it... I had to do some pushing on mine to get everything to line up but it turned out great.

They are strong for sure... it saved my friend's entire front end last spring..... would have destroyed every piece of plastic on there if he hadn't had one.

Thanks guy's. I need to put something on to preserve my front end since I own a tree magnet. Could be my sucky riding skills but I need to do something. I replaced the bumper once because the guy I got it from had a new stock one. It is broken where it mounts so I know what a crappy design it is. Thanks again.

My POS stock bumper is broken too. I ordered my SkinZ bumper about 3 weeks ago. Called them up a week ago and they are backed up about 4 weeks. GRRRR:face-icon-small-dis

And just a reminder, you have to REMOVE the front radiator in order to install and aftermarket bumpers.

Remove in 2006 when the sled was new. First thing to go bye bye. Sold them on ebay to people building quads or something.:face-icon-small-hap

Mine saved the sled, not the plastic though...but I was also full throttle, downhill into a 4' diameter tree:face-icon-small-blu. After a 2 hour digging and pulling session, I rode it out...no damage other than cosmetic and a cracked overflow bottle neck.

Stock plastic bumper would have been a recovery mission.

Yeah I happen to own a tree magnet so a good front bumper was in order. I had a similar inccident last year and was on my own digging it out. My stock bumper has been broke since I bought it. The guy I bought it from gave me a new bumper to install but the mounts it screws into were broken too so a new bumper did no good. Can't wait to get this installed. I'll post pic's once it's done.

Skinz Bumper install

A couple people have asked me to take photos of the install for the Skinz bumper so they could see it. I am most of the way through the install now.

After you remove you pipe, intake and inner cover, you will need to drill out the rivets that hold this bracket in place.

After you have drilled out the rivets, unbolt the bracket and install the new Skinz bracket. You will need to trim some plastic off the belly pan around the mounts. You will probably also have to take the belly pan loose from the fenders so you can push it down out of the way to install the new rivets.

You can install one of the later model filler panels to fill in the holes. I opted to take the jig saw to my SLP radiator delete panel and notch it for the bumper.

Next clamp the bumper to the bulkhead and test fit the hood. Adjust the bumper up and down till you find the place where your hood closes properly then you will drill 8 holes through the bumper and bulkhead and Rivet it on.

I haven't done the filler panels yet. The sled can easily be lifted by the new bumper.

Just a couple more things to be aware of. Make sure your side panels are on when you are fitting your hood and make sure everything lines up with your console and sides. Also be aware of where the front piece of the bulkhead is when drilling the holes for the 8 rivets that secure the top mount on the Skinz bumper.
