skinz Adjustable remote coupling!!

It was something they had worked on last year and Dan Adams had it on his sled for awhile.

Sounds awesome!

I think the concept is pretty cool but honestly I can't see myself ever getting one. It's too much work, I just wanna ride and have fun.

"too much work... i just wanna ride and have fun"? Seems like it would add to the riding experience, especially for the turbo guys who do a mix of riding.

Compared to most aftermarket rear suspensions setups, I'd say its a pretty decent setup that could transition to many different riding conditions and riders.

Pricepoint in the $600 range would get alot more attention for the advanced boondocker. They've taken the initiative to apply a rear lockout (mt bike) to a sled, and all the durability and shock tune development. I do think they're really targeting the big power riders, hence the price tag, and how they developed the need to begin with. Hats off to skinz. Other remote 'coupling blocks' are sure to come.

I agree, if the price point was around $500-600 I think I would be more interested. I do love the idea of being able to adjust the suspension on the fly. I think it would take sleds to the next level. Being able to have it transfer when you want it, and keep the skis down in a blink of an eye... Hopefully the stock suspension components can take coupling. I know I have busted my front torque arm twice last year.

Agreed. Could've been a more affordable way for many to achieve "best of both worlds", but not for $1200.

Been tossing around the idea of a handlebar mounted adjustment system for years, following the ideas and concepts of the M10 FRA (including FASTs electric version)/ polaris coupling blocks/ Mtn. Tamer coupling adjustment knob and K-mods 4-position coupler.

I believe you can make something simple that uses either manual force or electric power to turn a coupling block or move a "stop-block", making the rear scissor couple sooner or later on the fly.

Should allow for a new way of setting up rear shocks, focusing more on boondocking performance and having that ace up your sleeve for when you point and shoot.

Kudos to skinz for stepping up the game!

Ditto on price point. At $500 I'd consider it ($160-230 shock depending on if it's an rp2 or rp23, $150 in other parts, and $120 profit/ R&D recoup) it's not that complex of an item, and it can be copied for MUCH less than what they're selling it for, and at their price I'm sure it will be. Remote damping control is old tech on bikes, this shouldn't be that pricey.

Btw, that video was so full of yapping I spent more time fast forwarding than listening. They need to learn to CONDENSE their babbling a bit.

I think this will really shine on the crossovers like my Switchback Assault. When I have it set for the best powder riding it is a wheelie monster on the trails. To be able to leave it set soft on the days where I am on the trail a lot and then just flip the lever to keep the skis on the ground will be amazing. Too bad they are only doing mountain sleds the first year.

BCIL..the 2014 Kashima coat Float CTD-Remote Boost valve shock alone is $475 at a good deal.

You would be amazed at what a quality product costs to design, make, finance, distribute, overhead, liability etc... and still build in Dealer/Distributor pricing. All in the USA.

I don't claim to have ridden yet ... but will this winter. Nice to see outside the box thinking.

Let reserve a value judgement after it is run for the season and for what it can do for you and your riding. To be fair.

As a guy who's a suspension geek (I'm a downhill mtb rider and dirt bike guy too) there's no reason to use kashima on short travel shocks like this imo... it's a waste of money & comes down to "bling". I don't waste money on bling, I waste money on results based products. (which this most likely would be, it seems like a great idea)

The problem is, they priced this so high that almost nobody would buy it, so people will just copy it since that is so easy to do and make their own for a fraction of the cost. I know what quality products cost to make, I deal with production cost for a living in what I do, but the reality is, if you don't come into the market with a reasonable price, someone is going to simply steal your idea & come out with it themselves, and then they'll make a bunch of money.

btw, took me about 5 seconds to find them at $450 for retail. If they're paying retail for their parts they should just go out of business now.

For the record I like Skinz, they make good stuff (and contrary to some other folks I actually like the way they do business... less product, more demand), got ZERO issues with them at all, I just have a brain & a calculator, so I know what this should cost with a decent bit of profit built in both for them & for their distributors.

Nothing terribly special about the 14 either, you can find 13's for under 400 easily (I guarantee someone has a decent stock of them). Either way, point is they shouldn't be paying that. They produce products with fox shocks, they should get a better price than I can find on google in a 5 seconds search & click

btw, LBS may have 535 on a tag... but they're not "getting" that, just like almost nobody pays msrp for a DH fork either, despite the 2k price tags on them in an LBS.

MH, don't waste $ on the Fox for yur bike. Cane Creek DB air will now have a lock out. This is head and shoulders higher in performance over Fox CTD.

I'm not a Skinz fanboy by any means but this has a lot of merit. Being able to couple would certainly make the whooped out ride up (and back) to play areas a helluva lot more enjoyable and faster! Knowing the costs of the materials you use, a fair retail price would be in the $6-700 range. You could drop that by another $100 by working with X-Fusion instead of Fox.

Have FUN!

G MAN

PS - MH, you should look at a custom tuned Vector Air from X-Fusion. Less cost, less weight, and performs as well (probably better with a custom tune specific for the leverage ratio of your Reign) as a CCDB Air and world's better than anything from FOX. My 2 cents.
