SKINNY ON FLATBEDS

took out the box on my truck, and looking at going to a flatbed. what are you guys using and what do i need to have for haulin sleds. '03 2500hd srw. looking for opinions on aluminum vs. steel and features that you guys are liking.

If alum will hold up to whatever else you plan to use it for, I would definately go alum.

Lighter means more useable payload.
No paint to maintain.
Looks nicer.

FLATBED PICS

surely some of you are running flatbeds, what do you have, lets see some pics! What features do you like, and what do you wish you had?

ive been looking into a flatbed for my truck as well. after looking into silver lakes and speaking to mike i decided against silver lake because of lack of options. (no side boxes, slip tank, custom work) I found T/Rex Tech recently and have got some price quotes on the deck designed how i want it. It was slighty more expensive, but concidering it was far more loaded than the silver lake i think it actually priced better in the longer run. Check him out, I cant wait to have mine.

LOOKS GOOD

thanks for the link. looks like a real nice product. There is a local guy that builds beds, I'm gonna talk to him and see what he can do for me. Where is t/rex located? I am in NW montana, depending on distance, it might be worth a drive to have a look.

biggest things in my opinion after having a bed that does not have these features are #1 have ing a goo ramp/ anchor system to the truck, preferably one that slides in under the deck of the flatbed. #2 fold or slide outt sides so your bed doesnt have to be 8 feet wide when you dont have sleds on. #3 gooseneck hitch #4 tapered rear corners trust me it will save the front of your trailers's and your ski bridges the gap just fine when loading and unloading. #5 GOOD utility lights on headache rach so you can load in the dark #6 side boxes and mud flaps #7 lots of stake pockets so you never have an issue tying anything down

my flatbed had some of this but i am going to include all of it on the nex one that i build good luck hope that helps

I can't quite remember the location but I belive it was twin falls idaho. I'm located in Canada and have shopped around here and so far he's the best guy for price, quality. I really liked that he's more than willing to do any sort of custom work. Check out his bumpers too. I might just have to get one too. He's usually busy in the shop like any fabricator but give him a call and leave a message and he'll get back to you.

Here is one of mine, I prefer them to not only function but look good as well. I have seen many that look good but don't function and many others that function but look like crap. atten to the lines of the truck are improtant many people just stick a chunk of iron or aluminum together and call it a Flat bed....

I live in Nelson bc. I intend on going Down south to have it installed. I need to look a little more into it with the legality of bringing it across the boarder and if I have to get the truck inspected....

If you're in Nelson did you talk to jack at Alfab? He might be able to build you something custom...nice guy too

I'm in the north okanogan, shuswap area in bc. I like the trex beds too, but will probably get one built here. It would be interesting to know how easy it would be to get one from trex, and bring it back up. duties across the boarder would be another thing to think about.

I've looked into alfab and not to discredit his work but there were some limits on his abilities on the finishing of the deck; powdercoating, deckfinish and what not. Once again I'm not putting down jacks work as I have a friend getting a deck built for his yota right now. Another reason Im choosing t/Rex is he makes trick front bumpers.

As far as duty and whatnot goes, I haven't looked into it too much but I know you don't have to pay on good manufactured in north America. So I assume just sales tax and whatnot. I'll oviously look into in once the bank account gets a little bigger.

If you're in the okanogan, there is a truck bed company in kamloops. I just don't remember the name, I'll let you know when it comes to mind!
