Skidplate mod

I have looked at all the designs for blocking snow from the engine, but none I have seen so far would help with the problem I had yesterday. We were riding in fairly deep heavy snow and many times when we hit drifts we got covered in snow, then when I tried to shift there was a big clump of snow on the shifter and I had to kick it off, sometimes at a time that I really needed to shift. One of the other guys hit a drift and it kicked him into neutral and he got buried.

I was thinking that a kind of wing coming off the skid plate would help this and also give your feet some protection from rocks and stumps etc. Anyone seen anything like that or have a reason why it would be a bad idea?

Shift Protector

You described the the exact same problem I had yesterday, couldn't find the shifter. Some type of guard to protect shifter, engine AND foot would be really nice. Foot is still purple from cushioning tree and bike from each other.

happens a lot in the wet deep snow just kick it off more while your riding before it builds up. I find the snow sticking to the ski when you stop for a second is just as much of a pain in those conditions

they make some longer offset shifters which might just help keep it out away from the iceberg that deveolops off the case now and then. I like the wing idea, but honestly, warm motor/cold snow is gonna just probably result in a big snowball developing behind it.

I made a skid plate that sticks out 6 inches on each side I attached it to the frame with hose clamps and made it out of 1/4 in thick black plastic used a bike stand to hold it under the bike and lightly heated it with a propane torch to shape it to the frame

LOL yea that snow sticking to the ski is my biggest wet snow gripe. Nothing more humiliating than pulling up to a group of sledders, having them question you about the kit and you explain why it's so awesome, and then you say "Yea watch this!" as you take off and make it about 5 feet before you flop over on your face. Everyone else sure get's a kick out of it. Me, not so much.
