Skidoo XP Carb Freeze???

How many people have experienced there carbs freezing? I am wondering if you have found a cure for it. These last couple of rides i have been having a hard time keeping them from sticking. I run with my heaters on all the time, so that isnt able to fix my problem. I have got prefilters all over my intake trying to keep snow from getting in them. I think my problem is, that the snow is getting inside, vaporizing and getting inhaled. I havent tried run HEET through my gas yet. I was wondering if something like that would help. Any info from someone that is having this happen would be great. Thanks..

yes run heet in each tank till it stops doing it also they make a water absorbing pad that you can slip in the tank that helps..worse case you can also spray WD-40 in the carb bores but that wont last long(it is what they do on methanol cars to keep it from frosting the throttles)..use heet..more then likely you have water in your tank...

Heet, or Isoheet???? I've always been told to never run "heet" in a 2stroke?

I have run both..on these newer sleds might make sense to use the iso huh..good catch tim...most of the time now days I run seafoam injector cleaner..will get rid of water as well as clean the whole system..is good stuff..

Ya..ill try the heet or something good for 2 strokes. I dont think i have any water in the tank. I have already drained the tank completely by removing it and all added a absorbant pad and it came out dry. So my fuel is good. Its coming from under the hood. Kinda odd but a little trail and error will figure it out. WD 40 sounds good for a while.

Are you sure the carbs are iceing? What are the symptoms? is the slack in the cable after you experience a lack of rpm decrease when letting off the throttle? I have seen some 800 xp's that the rpms would not decrease after letting off the throttle and it turned out to be the carb slide's had some grooving in them causing the problem.

Thanks for that bit of info. Ill have to check now that you say something. I dont believe it is that but i wont say no until i check. My engine doesnt seem to reduce rpm after i get off the throttle. I can let me sled set there a minute and heat soak everything under the hood and then im good for about 5 minutes. I only does this during this time of year. Its really cold and have really fine snow. Last year during spring riding i never noticed it even with chest high deep powder. Kinda odd.. I think im going to try spraying them down with WD-40 and also add something to my tank. Hopefully that will keep it going. Lets hope...Thanks for the info. cjgodden..

Run Isoheet (red bottle) it will help, did your sled ever have the throttle cable update? It was a warranty item that was suppose to be taken care before you took delivery of the sled, This was to keep the throttle from sticking wide open.

If it only does it when it very cold it might be to lean and and have a hard time coming down to idle. Jetting changes with temps, Cold = lean, Hot = fat.

Next time it does it just raise the choke a little and see if it idles down.

I remember there was a warranty update on those where you had to do something to the throttles on the carbs because they were catching but can't remember the details, it was something you looked at when doing the pre delivery inspection.

Throttle still sticking

Well i rode yesterday and did everything that people suggested. I added the iso heet and sprayed down my carbs with wd-40. Everything was going great and i thought i had it solved and then really started playing in the fluff. The throttle started sticking or freezing again. But now im not too sure whats going on. I thought things were freezing but after playing with it for a while im starting to second guess myself. Im wondering is something else is going on. When i was out there i removed my air box and it was moist but nothing looked frozen. My question is, has anyone had issues with the throttle bodies themselves or the cables? Im starting to lean towards something else is wrong. Thanks for any advice..

i experienced the same thing and i thought it was carbs freezing but now im not sure after reading yours , mines a 09 summit X 800r. seemed to do it playing in deep snow at part throttle it would just kinda hang at like 5k RPM , i didnt try pulling the choke on but if i blip the gas it would idle down after a couple secs i have no vents extra vents and the stock vents are uncovered

Ice

Rode the deep powder yesterday. RPMs would hang until a blip or two of the flipper. My sled is in the shop thawing/drying out now. I did notice ice build up on the throttle block AND the brake lever areas. Melted all the ice off and squirted a bunch of graphite throttle cable lube stuff down the cable sheath. No more throttle hang up. The brake lever also had ice build up on the rubber plunger cup and was not letting the plunger go in fully. The powder was super fluffy and we basically rode in a cloud all day and it covered everything. Pretty sure your problem is ice.

We have been having alot of complaints of sticky throttles lately, I'm thinking that the conditions of humidity and temp are prime right now for ice build up on cables at the handle bars. Watch the cable right at the flipper where the cable goes into the sheathing.

I thaught my sled was freezing up, and it ended up there was just some ice behind the flipper. It would be stuck at just under quarter throttle. Simple but easy to not get noticed if you've never seen it before.
