Setting the skid changes the tracks angle of attack. It allows you to get up on top of the snow better.

You'd have to go to a longer track to set your 151" skid back, a 156 camo and a 2.5" set back. You'd rivet on tunnel plates behind existing ones, and move rear drop brackets back, keeping your stock center to center distances the same. Did this on an '00 700, 136 to 144, also did the 10mm D&R. D&R was a lot of work for the little gain.
On the 02 sleds they used the setback, a 151 had the 144 skid, 02's also had the little D&R on the chaincase over the 01 model.
As stated above the setback flattens out the AOA.
Alot of people swore by the 156x15 Camo. I run the 156x16x2.5, but that's another whole bunch of mods in itself.Traction is great, track speed is slow though, pulling a lot of weight.
