what is the easiest way to remove the rear skid on a sled.so it is easy to put back in?any info helpful. thanks:):beer;:beer;

release the torsion springs, and unbolt it from the tunnel...lay it on it's side when you do this or put the rear bumper on a stand. then when you bolt it back in put the torsion springs back on the "blocks" last.

i find instead of risking major injury with releasing the torsion springs:) i take a ratchet strap and wrap it around where the top of the rear shock mounts and then where the bottom mounts, put some tension on it. then when you put the skid back in put in the front bolts first and the back ones will line right up!!!

Also be sure to loosen your back axle and slid the wheel forward the readjust when you get done replacing the skid.

This is actually a good question.

I have pulled my skid out countless times over the years on various sleds.

Getting the front bolts out at times can be a real pain in the butt.......

You loosen one side, then when you go to the other side and loosen that side up, the bolt just spins on the axle, so you then have to go and retighten the other side until you get the previous side loose, then loosen both so they will come out. YOu will understand once you try it........ It is a retarded design, and one that has stuck with the industry for decades.

Getting the skid back in: If you just attempt to put the thing back in without compressing the skid, the rear holes will never line up. You have to compress the skid a bit to get the holes to line up. There are a few methods to do this. 1. There is a skid compression tool you can buy (Not worth it in my opinion) 2. Cheap old ratchet strap.

Take the ratchet strap and put it over the top "axle" where the rear bolts up. Put one of the "S" hooks on the lower skid, same with the other.

Put both of the front skid bolts on, then rotate the skid towards the mounting holes and keep ratcheting until the holes line up. Install bolts, life is good

Put the sled on its side when you are doing all of this.

Get a buddy and a case of beer, both will help you get this job done........

the ratchet strap (if you have torsion springs) is the by FAR the easiest!! and loosen the rear axle, wont be any issue at all...

If you have air shocks, just drain the air, and it slides out easy cheesy...

If your sled has a zerk fitting on that cross shaft, I have heard of guys removing the fitting and screwing a bolt into that hole until it reaches the cross bar, making it not move when you pull the bolts out from either side.

If you have trouble with the shaft turning take the bolt out that comes, then thread a little longer bolt into the shaft along with a jamb nut and washer on it. Turn the bolt in 7 ot 8 turns then tighten the jamb nut. Loosen the other side of the shaft then just hold the bolt and turn you jamb nut loose and take that bolt out. Works very easy.

Before you put your suspension bolts back in put some never-sieze on them, believe me if those bolts ever dry lock in those shafts U--R--scrooed, you will be taking them out with a chisel or hack saw, and good luck with that!!
