Ski Skins ????????

Just bought a house and dont want to gouge the garage floor up. Any suggestions for moving the sled off the sled deck into the garage?

I was thinking of some ski skins that I could load and unload with.

Do they still make them???

Any suggestions???

Thanks.

Rob.:D

They're still made and sold all over the place for @ $60 or more.
I use the wheels under mine for moving it around and there is a set made especially for running your sled on pavement. They're priced @ $45 and strap onto the spindle ror going bith fwd and reverse.

Personally, I think the skins are overprice, wear out too fast and you can't control your steering with them.

I screwed some casters to the bottom of a 2x6 with a 2x4 on top of it. Skis sit on teh 2x4s; 2x6s make the casters sit wide enough that it's stable.

Turns pretty easy when you're moving, casters are fixed so it's a lot like turning on spring snow.

I use sled dolliies in the garage and ski skins to load in trailer (saves the floor) I dont know how they would work for the deck. They are kind of a pain to get under the ski if the sled is at any angle and then another story to keep them on. I also have a shop dolly that works sweet but would'nt help on the deck.

I agree with the others that the ski skinz are a waste of money. Yes they are nice but do where out quick and very hard to control. Its also alot easier pushin your sled around on caster wheels.

Try this, you can pick up used bed liners for about 20 bucks, use a jig saw to cut some strips wide enough for your skis, the carbides will fit in the grooves of the bedliner, use a propane torch to heat up the front end of the strip and then bend it up similar to the bend in your ski, when you have it where you want it spray it with something cool (water, windex, whatever), the strip of bedliner will immediately assume and hold that bend, fasten the strips on your skis with bungees or whatever, I use this stuff all the time, one time I made a skid plate to rivet under a chaincase that my son smashed on a rock.

I just use a piece of 1/4" masonite the width of the ramp and about 3 feet long to unload on. make sure it is just under the ramp and then it will stay in place from the weight of the sled comping down the ramp. Then I just slip my dollies under and wheel it into the garage. To load I use (2) 12 inch pieces of 3/4" plywood that are 96 inches long to load. They are just long enough to get a good run at the ramp. I butt these to the ramp so they don't stick to the carbides and push under the ramp.

Been doing it that way for about 3 years and haven't gouged up anything yet.:beer;

My next garage will hopefully be big enough for a fork lift!!!

I use wheels so you can move the sled around. and they are about the same price

ski skins

I just went through the same hunt as you. Best place I found was Royal Distributing. I paid $70 per set. Universal fit, wide enought to fit over my dragon gripper skiis.
