Ski Pressure

Have the SX kit and it seems to have a ton of ski pressure. Anyone else have this issue and any things to help it out? I set the front ski mount at the setting as instructed, also put a little more pressure on the front shock in the skid and seemed to help but don't want to go to far where it will start to trench.

Bike is a crf450x

What year is your honda?

I was not happy at all with the handling of my Mtn. Horse on my 11 CRF compared to my 08 RMZ. There was way too much ski pressure, and the seat was too high.

So I messed around with the spacers in the skid as recommended, but didn't get the results that I was looking for. Eventually, I pulled the CRF strut out, and put the RMZ one in (the RMZ strut is about 1/2" shorter than the CRF) problem solved.

However, Timbersled told me that this was a bad idea, would void my warranty, and cause damage to the kit. With that being said, some of my riding buddies decided to shorten their strut rod as well (1/2" or less) and we're all happy with the results. And, we haven't had any damage.

I know the SX is a little different, but if I remember correctly it does still have a strut rod, it's just shorter.

Other options are to add a spacer to the top of the slide mechanism, loosen the limiter strap, or take a little pressure of the "upper" shock.

The sx kit has a adjustable rod , just shorten it a bit If needed. (you will need to reset your chain tension after)
I loosened the upper shock preload a bit to reduce ski pressure and allow more ski lift under acceleration. Great to lift the front over Jumps etc.
Careful though at high speed you will loose to much ski pressure -- for cornering control.
My thought is they preload the ski quite a bit for control wile racing.
At high speed my ski starts floating up on my (Home made) Centre runner and looses bite for fast corners ( on packed tracks) . Pre loading the upper shock keeps it down.
Also make sure that the top shock has some sag when you sit on the sled.
If you hang your bike the ski touching the rear part of the track should touch just before the front to give the upper shock some preload.

hope that helps.

You could also lower the the triple clamps a bit. Will put a little more presure on the front of the track.
