I just got a brand new 146x16x2.25 powdermax the other day and found out that it is not going to work with my setup as it is just to long for the tensioners. So after I sell it I will be buying a 144. I know for sure that the challenger 144x15x2 2.52 will fit but I was thinking I could make the 144x15x2.5 3" pitch Challenger Extreme fit...The powdermax is the 2.86 on 8 tooth drivers (same size as 9 tooth 2.52's) and fits with about 1/4 of clearance so could I make that 2.5 paddle fit with 7 tooth 3" pitch drivers? I need a for sure answer that it is going to fit and work as I cannt be buying and selling tracks much like I just did with this powdermax.

Too long for the tensioners???
Do you mean the back idler wheels?

I think selling that track and getting a 2.5" will be more of hassel then just making the track you have now fit.

Have you move the skid back to the next set of holes??
If so then get a BWK to take up the rest of the slack.

Yeah the back idler wheels and the track tensioners are all the way back and tight and the thing still sags really low. I cant move the skid back to the next set because it is in a 07 440 race chassis and there is only 1 set of holes. Also I run the sled as a 121 for around ND and then have rail extensions to make it a 144 for my mountain trips like the 1 or 2 I take per year so I dont wanna have all those holes in my tunnel either. Whatever BWK means? I cant put a offset axle on because I already have the offset built into the extensions so that I can run the 2 8" wheels on the inside of the rails with a solid straight across axle relocator. Hope this clears it up a little bit...

If thats an almost absolute promise they will work and not rub the lugs I will do it. Sorry I just want to be certain. Are 7 tooths too small of a circumference to turn around as far as rolling resistance and all that? I was just wondering as I have heard some say it might be to much of an angle to turn around on... Thanks for the help guys and keep the suggestions and help coming!

Rails

Here's a new thought for you. Sell your rail extensions and put the money into some custom rails that fit the track and wheels you want. Much lighter by eliminating the extensions and a lighter track. Mike at Ice Age Manufacturing can make them for around 250 (but don't quote me on yours) (mine were 159" with kick-up, for 9" wheels and powder coated for 270 delivered). You can also get the lightened versions which should make you around 10 lbs. lighter than your extensions and the 3" pitch track.
Just thought you needed something else to think about.

haha yeah that sounds cool but im not going to do that for only 1 to 2 weeks out of the year. Keep in mind I run the sled as a 121 around ND all the rest of the year. Thanks for trying though

Why can't you move the skid back an inch??
Shouldn't matter that it's a 440 chasis but I guess I haven't delt with one before .
I would set it up with 2 mounting holes, alls you'd need to do is rig something up for the front and rear should be cake, just drill out the hole in the drop bracket.

Otherwise sell your track and take a hit, buy an extreme and you'll have to buy the Avid 7T CNC'd drivers at $117 a piece.
To me it just makes more sense to make what you have fit unless moneys no big deal to you.

Maybe you didn't understand.

I meant that you would keep your 121 rails, just sell the extensions, and swap out the rails when you change the track. It takes just as long to pull the extensions as it would to swap rails. Since you would need different drivers along with a track I believe you would be looking at about the same amount of money if you sold your extensions. I'm not trying to talk you into anything, just making suggestions on what makes the most sense to me.

No I understand you all are giving me suggestions. And very good ones and I thank you for that alot!!!

Snowsnob- I now see that I can move the stuff back 1 inch. My question is. By bringing it back 1 inch about how much track play am I going to be taking up here? Will it be enough to loosen up the slack in the track and/or possibly lossen the tensioners a little to make it fit? THanks alot

Yep I put it back on and then set the tensioners all the way tight again and then what I did was put a 1" piece of wood behind the back idler wheels and it tightens the track up really nice. Should I worry about the track stretching to much and then ending up slipping on the drive sprockets or doesnt the track stretch that far? Thanks for the help now I just gotta find some kind of 1" setback drop brackets for the rear end to work

Can't you just sell your exentions and get a set that are 1" to 1.5" longer? There are so many differant track lengths now there has to be a combo that will reach back for you.

Going from a 121 to 146 =25" plus BWK (Big Wheel Kit).
Should be the same as going from a 136 to a 162 =26".
Should be a 12.5" extention.

My .02

Then I have to sell the extensions that I just bought back in July. And im already working on the wasted extensions I bought the week before because I didnt specify what I wanted and now have a pair that I wont use laying around. So there is already a waste of $100 and now if I have to do another set id be wasting another $130 for these ones. And I cant send them back because I have dremmeled them out a bit to fit my rails. So I wont be getting new ones.
