Had something different happen yesterday...bent the ski back in a draw and this is what happened. Anyone else had this problem before? Five years on the TS and this is a first. Put it back together and pinched the damaged side and limped it out. Made for a short day!
This is why I sell some upgraded bolts. They don't stop the problem but they do buy time as they essentially have a larger diameter where the saddle hits the bolt. These bolts don't have threads used as a bearing surface on one side of the ski saddle.
This is a wearing item and as such needs to be checked often and replaced when worn out.
I have your bolts on both of my bikes. I know the holes weaken over time, but this ski had about 3 hours on it! Looking at the saddle, I'm not surprised it happened, I'm surprised it hasn't happed before in the last 4 years!
I have had this happen a couple of times. Make sure you torque the bolt to specs. I think this is a failure point to save spindle and forks. Every time mine looked like that I hit hard and went over the bars.
Had this happen to me yesterday! Sent me over the bars and cracked the center skegg almost in half. Cberg you have any luck with the welded washers on there? Has that energy transfered up the line to some other weak link. I too feel like it should bend or break in order to save more expensive parts from breaking.
I have not had any issues at this point with the welded washers. I think I will have a ski mount that will last much longer now. I have seen major damage caused from hitting stuff with the standard ski mount, you hit something hard enough stuff will break period.
