SIXSIXONE Core Saver?

I posted in another thread about looking for a chest protector, rather be safe than sorry.

I have been looking at the SIXSIXONE Core Saver and looks to be pretty good. I also saw that they make another chest protector just for snowmobiling but it looks like it wouldn't protect much, kinda the point of wearing it eh.

Just wanting to hear some reviews on them if people like them or not, +/- on them, and maybe your size to better understand their sizing? I am right about the middle of the chart, 6'1/170, but am thinking the S/M.

Thanks

I posted a link and some thoughts on your other thread.
Personally, I really like the core saver. Doesn't restrict movement and still breathes well. Covers your shoulders, spine, ribs, chest and has a kidney belt.
If you are looking for negatives, I would say:
The side zipper doesn't always stay up the best.
The kidney belt tends to ride up.
They run a little small.

I bought the 661 pressure suit this year after breaking ribs last year and having a friend break his back, I don't mind it when I ride, it is a little bulky and does hold in a little heat across the back but all in all not to bad but I have not wrecked bad yet this year (knocking on wood). I dont know about sizing I am 6'5" 220 poounds and I got the 2X so I could get the longer sleeves but it isn't to baggy across the middle I hope this helps you.

Are these really good when it comes to actual impact? Most of the non tek or Bewear vests look like roost vests, not this one tho..

You say they run small? hmm, how much smaller?

I have a 33 waist and not a very big upperbody, would the S/M still work?

I know most gear runs small, I have castle boots that are a size 13 and wear a 10 1/2 shoe.... haha

Monte, can you PM me a price on these? I've ordered from ya before, went good, maybe if the price is right order again?

GET THE BIGGER ONE! I am 165lbs 5'11" and have a 32" waist and the S/M would be WAY too small. The L/XL fits good but I had to shorten the waist strap. You might have to as well. The problem with the vest is that it's too short if you have a long torso (even normal size torso IMO), so you almost have to go with a L/XL. My L/XL barely covers my L4/L5 on my spine where my back is broken... The vest strap will ride up on you throughout the day. I still like mine though, esecially for the price.

Hmm, thats what I figured, especially once you have a base layer or two on.

Other question, how well does the chest plate protect the front cavity? It seems protruding on the front of it, and doesn't seem to extend to the sides to far, is it enough though for the ribs and sternum? Thats what I really need to protect is the sternum...

I really like my 661 Core Saver. It has a good amount of padding in the front and great back protection. I wear that and an HMK backpack and I can't hardley tell I am wearing either of them.

This will be my third year wearing the 661 Coresaver. I have hit my handlebars numerous times, hard enough to bruise through the vest, with out significant injury. I went off a cliff last year and came away with my core injury free. Absolutely LOVE this vest.

They are a bit short in the front for my liking, but I believe it covers your major organs just fine. I do not pull the kidney belt tight and that stopped the riding up.

the pressure suit will give you added protection to the core/spine and your shoulders and arms. well worth the investment. i used to wear a tek vest but, now i wear the pressure suit. seemed logical to progress that way after wearing the pressure suit on the supermoto track. if i can beef off the dirt and pavement at high rates of speed with no injuries to speak of, it works. and i have, and it does. LOL! my .02 for the group. ski

got one six six one to but have not had a lot of time to say a lot but vey comfotable and spreads my ABS straps weight!have not noticed any size problems as i'm 6 ft and i got the large hope this helps you.

one thing on the sizing... it depends on where you're wearing it. I wear mine as my 2nd layer. tank top then vest then beacon then jersey and maybe coat if it's cold enough. I ordered the S/M and sounds like you're actually a bit thinner than I am, I'm about a 34 waist. I agree with the complaints that it rides up so I, like CG, have stopped wearing the kidney belt tight. Still, wish they just made them a bit longer... but all in all, great vest!!

I wonder if the L/XL and S/M are the same length just different widths. Being the size I am I expected the L/XL to be a bit longer. I'll go measure mine if someone with a S/M measures theirs!

Gonna go check at the KTM dealer tomorrow to see if they have one, wear sled clothes to work haha and try it on with coat and all over lunch. Guess thats the only way to really know.

Thanks everyone, broken bones in the chest suck, had 5 broken ribs, a cracked sternum, and a bruised heart last year and it is STILL tender!!!!

That would be sweet, haha, I have a long torso just no *** or chest haha!!!!

damn by the sounds of it you need some iron armor! :beer;

The 661 Core save has no rib protection, nowhere near as much as the Klim chest protector. It has a little upper chest protector and a very good back protector along with the kidney belt. I think the Klim is a much better piece than 661 for sledding. I have both, i use the klim for sledding and the 661 for dirt biking. JMO

Playin city league basketball, buddy threw the ball away, I cut the guy on fast break off trying to pick up a charge. Guy hit me at full sprint, me at a standing stop, and he lead with his knee, two inches more to the left they said my heart woulda stopped!!!! Good thing I went in a few days after!!!(finished the game too haha)

So it has little protection as far as sternum? I basically just need something better than what I have now (nothing) that will distribute the force enough that it won't hit the soft spot on my sternum, about the size of a quarter.

I think there might be better options for chest protector out there. If you hit it really hard it will cave in...

Went to KTM and tried on a thor protector and felt really good under the coat and over my layers. The dealer loved the Core saver and is ordering a few in, gonna try both and then decide after.

Saw a couple that zip up the middle of the chest, couldn't imagine buying one of those, woudn't do anything for my sternum. Getting excited to see this core saver, after seeing some of the others they had I think this will be perfect for the price!

I have had my 661 Pressure suit for about 4 years and have never hurt myself in any unplanned flights since getting it. Hopefully I learned my lesson last Feb from the one day I got in a hurry and left without the knee/shin guards. I am 63 years old so I have to wear a little protection and stay a lot closer to the snow. The Pressure suit also supports your back and torso.

A sort of older friend of mine used to give me a lot of crap for wearing protective gear, last winter he did a jump sitting down and fractured vertebrae and has sold his RMK, gave it up to stay home with wifey all winter, what a putz!!!

Good Luck

PS I have a very messed up back myself from 30 years ago so I build very light
sleds that compensate for my lack of lifting ability.
