Lifetime Membership
Went to renew my subscription and I do not see a lifetime plan anymore......

Does anyone know if they eliminated this plan or am I looking in the wrong area or something???

With the looming unification of XM & Sirius, a lifetime membership with one or the other may not provide you with optimum programming in the future.

Sounds like new receivers will have the capability of users choosing "al-carte" programming packages, choosing their favorite stations from both XM or Sirius.

IF and WHEN the FCC decides to OK the merger
Hard to believe that both companies are losing huge money
Did I hear right in that XM and Sirius technologies are not compatible?
Does that mean new recievers for all us Sirius guys when this goes down?

That would be alright! C&R were talking about the merger deal the other day.. would be cool if we could have both systems in one or at least pick channels from both.

Who says it will be XM or Sirius? From what I have seen XM is not in the best of shape from what they were a few years ago.

I have it in my Ford and so far I like it, although it wouldn't bother me if all of a sudden I had to revert back to regular radio and IPod.

Would they actually make all these subscribers get new stuff or make the other system obsolete? I doubt that.

No worries boys

Straight form the XM sight

MERGER UPDATE

On March 24, XM announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had approved the proposed merger with SIRIUS. XM is pleased that after a thorough review, the DOJ agrees that the entertainment marketplace will remain highly competitive and robust after our merger.

With the DOJ's decision behind us, our next and final regulatory step will be a decision from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Soon after FCC approval is obtained, XM and Sirius would complete the merger.

The combination of our companies will lead to more choices and better pricing for our subscribers, and result in a stronger competitor in the rapidly evolving audio entertainment market.

As we have said, no XM radio will become obsolete as a result of the merger. We have millions of radios in use, including many that are factory-installed in automobiles. After the merger, our subscribers will not need another radio to continue to receive programming like they now enjoy. The XM platform will continue to offer a full complement of programming to our millions of subscribers.

We'll communicate directly to our subscribers once the FCC has rendered its decision.

Ok, I got an email back from customer service.

Basically there is a lifetime plan $499

That allows you to transfer the subscription to three more (One at a time) radios in the future for a $75 transfer fee.

So if you get a crappy radio that fails in a year, you have to buy a new radio, then pay the fee to transfer it over.........

I still think I will do the lifetime plan. It takes 3.2 years to break even on the deal, but now that I have Sirius, I cannot even turn on "local" radio anymore.
