Simmons GenII's vs. others

I need an all around good ski that floats in the deep puff but will handle really good in hard packed powder. I hear good and bad about the Simmons. I've always had the Pilot 6.9 and had good luck with them.

I can't speak for simmons currently because it has been 10 years since my last set. I can say that the SLP Powder Pro is excellent in the powder trails. That is my favorite part of the ski. It holds a sidehill with the best of them and seems to float very well, granted, anything will float with the Poo front end.

I have Gen I on the RX-1 and Gen II on the Apex. great skis. Even the Gen II on harder snow isn't as bad as I thought they would be. Buddy of mine has always run Gen I's on his Ski-doo's and really liked them.

I have run Gen 1 and gen 2 for ten years straight.

The Gen. 2 float like crazy!! They do great on the trail because they do not dart. They turn great and add about 2" of suspention to your sled by flexing.

The other day I was out with my gen 2's in deep heavy snow riding my T-Apex with the 174" straight Ice age rails. In my opinion they floated too well. I needed the skis to sink down a little to make it easier to carve and side hill.

It might sound crazy but in my opinion there are times that skis can float too well and make the sled harder to handle, especially 700 lb sleds that you have to ride and you have to get it right the first time.

In most conditions the gen 2's are the right ski for my sled.

Went back up the next day with the stock skis and guess what?

The Simmons Gen 2 worked better in those conditions too.

I did the mod to the Simmons Gen 2 to make them side hill better and carve better.

I just need to get them back out on the snow to test them.

I was gonna say something about it as well, you cut the outside corners out of them on the tails to allow them to slide easier, you compormise a tiny bit of flaot to gain a rather large amount of side hill/carving ease.

I took my sled out yesterday just riding the trails due to lack of snow. This was the first time on the gen II's. they made my sled ride like a caddy! They eat up the ruts and lines on the trail and go where you point them with no darting. Can't wait to try them out in the powder. So far I am impressed with the design.
