Simmons Gen 1 skis, how do you like them for sidehilling etc..

Hello I have a set of Simmons Gen 1 Skid I ran for the last ride last year and it was on concrete packed spring snow they handled great down the trail didn`t dart and wouldn`t follow other ski tracks they just made there own path, didn`t get to try to sidehill or carve with them, They were hard to steer in the harder snow especially when you were stopped or creeping slow

I would like to know how many of ya run these simmons skis and like them for sidehilling and down hill uturns? and for manuevers like that.

Is there any mods you guys do to them to improve there handleing characteristics?? I have been running a set of well modded 6.9 Pilots and like them but changing colors on my sled and the pilots are yellow marble with yellow loops and my sled will have no Yellow and I won`t like it with the new Blue/White scheme, but the Simmons are in great shape and are all Black.

Any info or advice would be appreciated

please feel free to post pic of any mods you have done to the Simmons

my buddy has them on his mod tripple S chassis and he can ride them really well, cause he has alot more seat time than I

Thanks, Wildcard

IMO they're a pretty poor ski for technical riding, the outer carbide fights you in certain situations.

That said, we cut a pair of them on a sled and it actually worked rather well.

if you cut from just behind the outer carbide, angle in, then bring the cut toward about the middle of the ski, it works pretty well.

That pic kind of shows what I'm talking about.

The best mod for a simmons gen 1 IMO though is to trade it for a power pro, usi, gripper, DS2... all of which are much better imo.

A flat stiff ski such as those will never be lite to the touch in the conditions you suggested, A Ski like those is old school design.Ski rocker loosens up the ski and makes it lively

Thanks for the reply guys, please keep them coming.

was afraid of the honest answers and info you all had, I can`t afford mod skis but other than the Simmons and Pilots what do you all think of the new skidoo ds skis?

I notice alot of the pro riders seem to ride C&A skis is this just a sponsor thing or what model of these are the best technical riding ski?

Thanks Again, Wildcard

I have em on my Rev and my RT. My kid likes em on the 800, but I'm gonna go with gripper ski's on my RT this winter. As said above they're not too great in the hills, plus there pretty heavy as skis go. But you gotta love the color schemes

Thanks for the reply, ya they are a cool look ski and your right they are heavier, probably just stay with the 6,9 pilot they work good just would have to get a different color set.

I`m askin about your bulkhead braces in the lower part of your posts?? how much is the kit, I have done everything on this build the last couple years especaly after changing complete chassis and installing the 440X front nun, along with the AI A arms to prevent tweeking the chasis and have been interested a set of your braces, so guess now is the time to ask?

MOST of the C&A's I'd trade for an old beater pair of simmons and it'd be an upgrade, BUT this year they came out with a REAL mountain ski, and as an official C&A hater, I'm stoked to try them. The new BX has a curved bottom instead of the nasty edges on the other skis that fight you in a sidehill, they've got more rocker, a tapered back end (again to keep it from fighting you in a sidehill), and more upkick in the rear. They're in a totally different class from the XTX & MTX type designs.

Btw, the new doo DS skis imo are in the same class, good rocker, nothing too edgey on the sides, nice taper... they're a real good ski imo, I can't justify spending money to replace them.

DS2's are a great ski and a lot of guys are putting the Polaris skis on the Doo's. Both are as good as most of the aftermarket stuff I've tried and have tried many.

Grippers- Great choice, they flat rock and better than any aftermarket design for the mountain.and I have them all,,,

Not to Hi Jack but nice brace. I made exactly the same thing from 3/16 material and put on a brand new 07 from day one. Its had head on hits and never tweaked anything.

Thanks, good way to kill a Rev is to run them with out some sort of girdle. Mine are 3/16 PTO and 1/8" on the mag....

thanks for all the replys and recommendations, I beleive I`ll try the grippers since you alll mentioned it I haven`t heard anything negative about them on the revs or other skidoo chassis, but some sure seem to hate them on the Pro and aren`t they a polaris skid, Lol

What are you guys doing to mount a set of grippers on a Rev? skid rubber modifications, do you have to drill the mount set ups?? How wide are the grippers?

are you doin any additional mods to them to even better there handling or performance?

wwracer, got alot of sled irons in the fire now when I get it all put together and done I`ll try to get ahold of ya for a set of braces

Thanks, Wildcard
