I saw this in the swap meet and have seen it done to other ski's as well. Who has done this mod and what have been the advantages of it? Any con's

I did this before the beginning of the season and am happy with the change.

The difference was noticeable, but not earth shattering. From my experience there isn't a downside effect so it seems like a good way to go.

I used a Dremmel (sp?) tool with a cutting wheel designed to cut plastic. The process took about 30 minutes.

When I researched this mod on the the different forums there was some good discussion regarding where to begin cutting (at the spindle, in front of the spindle...).

I began the cut 1" behind the spindle. You may feel a more dramatic difference if you cut further up the ski.

I took the Gen II's off my Rev (hated them) and put them on my Nytro. They are better on the Nytro, but we were riding in 3 plus feet of fresh powder.

I was thinking of taking off the entire outside edge so it would be just like a Gen I on the outside and keep the inside the same for better floatation. Has any one done that?

I need to try this. I had my first ride with the Gen II and I didn't care them at all.
I think I will start at the spindle and go back from there..
Any one cut up further? likes dislikes?
Thanks
DC

some go farther

I know 2XM3 on here cut his about 4-5" farther forward then the one in the picture and when riding in the powder I can see where when you go to counter steering this leading edge is pushing agaist the snow and if it were cut further forward it would lay over easier.....not sure if it's an appreciable gain going farther forward but I'm considering it! Mainly for low snow conditions and firmer spring time riding....then it would be better in my opinion. I have mine cut from spindle back and love it! The width at the cut part is 8-1/4" wide so I think the flotation would still be good....you would loose a little but still be doing pretty good even if you cut it all the way forward......like Timbersled did with the stock ski's. Let us know your experiences.
