Anyone got any info on riding the sierra madres by the snowies. Ride the snowies a few times a year but never tried the madres. Have a hard time finding info or videos? Is it comparable to the snowies and do you need the same snowdepth or is there more land mines? Any info would be appreciated. Thinking over new years stay around encampment by saratoga then we can always unload at ryan park in the snowies too.

Ive been living in the platte valley and riding for 15 yrs.

Snow conditions are identical to the snowy's 99% of the time. I always laugh when I see posts on here talking about the mythical madres- 'always waist deep untracked powder with no crowds'... truth is its a mtn like any other:face-icon-small-hap

The madres are smaller in size and the riding area is significantly smaller due to the wilderness on the south side.

Overall the terrain is comparable to some areas of the range. It is a little steeper and does not have parks and meadows everywhere like the range.

Trails are not groomed as frequently as the snowy's and there are not as many.

Encampment side parking lots are small and it only takes one person parking like an as s to block out 10 trucks and force people to back down the road... so park at the first lot

One thing I suggest to everyone is to ride up, it's very easy to drop off the divide and wind up in a very bad spot.

X2 on getting yourself into a bad spot, much more technical riding than the Snowy's.

We always spend one day each trip riding the Madres.
I never feel that same "warm & fuzzy" that I get in the Snowies.

If I were able to choose between having problems in the Snowies or the Madres, I would choose the Snowies every time.
