Sidekick X turbo

as far as I know boondocker is just shipping kits now, so likely no one has ridden that kit which is the same as as the base sidekick just added injectors and controller box from my research. Might have to give er some time.

I asked VOHK about getting one and they were reluctant to sell one to me and encouraged me to get the base sidekick or a high compression turbo with fuel controller. I found that interesting since they obviously work closely with boondocker. Don't mean to start an argument but I'm sure if you called them they would give you their opinions and rational. I've always been happy with them and generally listen to their input since I'm far from an expert at anything, let alone turbos.

While I haven't ridden one my opinion is side kick pump or the full adjustable kit.

I went with the side kick this year. Ran the previous kit with tial housing and it was awesome at 10-12

Boondocker talked me out of the X because i ride at 9000-11,000 feet and said the x runs out of duty cycle on fueling at high elevation and i would not see much power increase over my last years side kick. They told me they work really good from 6000 - 9000 feet but above that you don't get the same power out of them and told me to upgrade to the adjustable kit which I did and im very happy it pulls way harder at 8 lbs then my side kick ever did. If your budget allows spend the money for the adjustable kit but if I don't you will not be disappointed with the sidekick they run spot on every time you pull the cord.

So with the extra injectors why would it run out of duty cycle? Im confused... Is the extra injectors the only difference between the X and sidekick??

Are you running pump at 8psi at that elevation?

Because if you wanted to spend the extra money you would be way better off having Erik dial it in with the box perfect on the mountain then just having a generic tune in it. Erik can squeeze every last drop of performance and drivability out of it without sacrificing reliability

They said at 10 psi at elevation the X box with the basline everyone program can not handle it so its not the injectors or fuel system running out of duty cycle its the box that wont do the duty cycke. They said you could use a adjustable box and it would work but also said at elevation anything 10 psi and over needs a intercooler to keep charg temps down on long pulls. So adding box and intercooler to x is not worth it for high elevation guys just buy race gas kit ( boondockers) words.

I have the adjustable race kit and I love it. I run a 50/50 Av fuel/91 non eth blend at 12 lbs and the sleds a riot. It can get a little western in the tight stuff where the sidekicks shine, but I'm a little bigger so I all works out for the best.

I ride with a lot of BD kits. Race kits and Sidekick. They are all awesome. The 3 foot powder days are funner with the big boost :).

Had my sidekickX kit installed last week and rode revy for 3 days. The kit absolutely rocks it runs spot on. Cant thank Reid Hedlund from Boondocker Canada enough!!!!!

What elevation are you running that 12 lbs ?

Curious as to why you would need more fuel at elevation?

What is your target boost setting?

It's pretty vague to me when they say "10 lb" or "6 lb".... because that is dependent on elevation.

At "10 lbs" at 10,000 feet, the engine is getting 2+ lbs LESS manifold pressure from the turbo than the same sled reading "10 lbs" at 5,000 ft even though the gauge reads "10 lbs" at both elevations.... of course with temperature playing a role.

What are your charge temperatures (airbox temps) at "10 lbs" on a non intercooled BD-SK/X? (at the elevation the kit is rated for the "10 lbs")

So... at what elevation is the BD-SK/X reading "10 lbs" from the kits description ??

How much boost? Is boost preset or adjustable? Intercooled?

Rick,

Does it keep the gauge reading at a consistent near-12psi reading from 6500 to 11K ft?

Makes sense... The BD EBC is keeping the MAP consistent at all elevations as it should.

Gotta like that feature.
