Sidehilling and "flickability" Apex vs Nytro, need help deciding!!!

Getting real close to pulling the trigger on a decked out Nytro, but here lies my delema...

I really like to side hill and like the "flickability" factor in a sled. XP is probably my favorite sled for both of these characteristics.

I have very little time on either an APex or Nytro. A full day of riding on the Apex, and I surprisingly really like it. Stock chassis at 10# of boost.(needed more power) It was very easy to hold a side hill and it seemed easy for me to manuver it around in soft, spring like conditions. Sled felt very natural to me.

Rode a nytro for only a few minutes, again, stock chassis at 14# of boost. Felt somewhat awkward, and didn't seem to hold a sidehill as well as the APex, felt a little unstable, especially coming down hill.

Sleds I am looking at are 2 2008 Nytros MCXpress, with timbersled rear suspention, one with a CR racing tunnel, the other with VE boondocking tunnel.

OR, Apex diamond s frame with a RX1 engine, with updated rods and pistons, capable of 26#of boost, M10 suspension.

All about the same price.

OR...LOL 2007 APEx with shimed engine, VE tunnel, DT boondocker turbo, front and rear timbersled suspension, 166" track/ot 162"(comes with both) This macine is 2/3 of the cost of the others.

Too many good deals out there. Alot of nice sleds.

Any input would be great, I need to make a decision ASAP.

Thanks

My vote would be for the Nytro. The Nytro does take some getting used to but once you are used to it I think it is pretty easy to throw around. I am hoping that the new skinz front end that I have going on will take care of the "twitchiness".

I would suggest the NYTRO because of the opportunity it presents you with to be upgraded down the road, or even right away.

SPG is now offering the “Concept” high performance front suspension for the Nytro. This front suspension repositions the spindle 4.5” forward along with an increase in caster which addresses many of the handling problems associated with the Nytro. This front suspension significantly improves trail handling and reduces or eliminates the erratic behavior of the Nytro. It enables the Nytro MTX to perform and function as a technical riding machine in the mountains allowing the rider to experience technical side hilling, off camber maneuverability, downhill to unphill turns, etc.. The kits will be available in 39” widths for the mountain models and 42” width for the trail/crossover models. Kits can be purchased with shock packages which includes Fox Float 2 or Fox Evol R. They are available with and without shocks but shocks used in this kit must have spherical mounting ends (Retrofitting of OEM shocks are available by OFT Racing). Kits range from $950.00-$1949.00.

There are tons of upgrades available for either chassis. How much do you weigh and how tall are you? Some bigger guys prefer the Apex.

Does anyone offer a front suspension for the Apex that gives it better sidehilling ability??

Thats a tough one. I have had both and would say that there are things I like about each. I'm on the Apex now and it is really hit or miss, depends on snow. It seems like the steering is goofy on the Apex, the steering system changes directions 3 or 4 times so sure that has some effect on it. Nytro does take some time getting used to, I would really be interested in the SKINZ front end on the Nytro, sounds like the ticket. I have had more fun on the Apex, going to be sticking with that for a while.

I'm a short, stockier guy at 5'6" and 185#, but don't have any issues handling a sled, height is at time a " leverage" issue, but besides that?

if you go Nytro...order teh Skinz kit before you take delivery...it is that radical of a difference!!!

attached are some pics from the day we did some of the testing on teh new front end with the Skinz crew...

It is amazing what happens when you fix the geometry of the front end of the Nytros...

I would be suspect of anyone that tells you the apex is more "flickable" than the nytro. I have had time on both and nytro is way more maneuverable. also Apex rider positioning is old school, not rider forward like the nytro.

Riding a few doesn't give all the answers, suspension and setup can make a huge difference. My dealer has had both with cat skids and powerclaws on running 12-14lbs of boost and they are way better with the cat skids than stock skids. I don't like the lay down steering myself but many say its just something you get used to. I wonder how hard it would be to put a vert post off a new cat on the nytro.

I believe CR racing makes a relocation kit for the post.

Is this the same front suspension that MTdream is suggesting? Thanks

Yes, that is the kit.
Mine JUST Arrived a couple days ago.
Next week I will begin a new thread on it as I open the box and go through all the products in the kit.

I LOVED the difference it made on the demo sleds last year and placed my order right on the spot.

It UTTERLY TRANSFORMED the Nytro.
The difference was simply striking!

There are a couple really good threads from all of us that got to ride those demo sleds if you want to read up on it.

IMHO, get the nytro, put on the kit, if you want more power add Boost.

This season should see the best handling Nytros ever!

LOL, now that;s funny...if I want more power???? lol I'm gettin a Nytro WITH boost already!!!!

Decided on a sled, and after talking to Jake at Skinz I am sold on this front end. They are 2 months backlogged now, I'll be ordering one in the next couple of weeks so I should be good to go before snow flies!!!!!!!

Thanks for all who chimed in.

I only weigh 145 and find the Apex chassis is quite easy to ride. However, it does need a few minor mods in order to be comparable to a Nytro, but these are easily accomplished without too much expense so pick your poison.

www.Oftracing.com is a premier dealer for skinz and I believe they have some kits in stock. You may want to order your kit through them. They are excllent guys to deal with.

OFT is the place to get them but I don't think anyone has them in stock right now. I think Skinz has quite a few already sold that are still waiting to be built. Glad I got my order in early.
