Side Panels - What's the difference?

My sled felt the need to become a tree hugger out in tog a couple of weeks ago as it wasn't happy with the wrap I put on i guess and destroyed the side panels and hood.

The sled is at my local shop and on the estimate they quoted the following part #

5439283-070 and 282 (LH & RH) at a price of $70/panel.

anyone know how this is different than the following part #

5437492-581 - at a price of $270/panel?

the cheaper part seems to be coming from the Indy chassis vs. the RMK chassis - but does anyone know if there is any difference vs. being black vs. painted?

My guess is that Is the decals not the panel. Panels come without decals.

according to the description it is a black hdpe side panel. Same part # but metallic black is up over $200.

so is there really flat black side panels that can be had for less than $60 new?

Or is it the vent insert (right above the oil tank) for the side panel?

In the parts diagram it looks indeed like the small black vent piece which is in the panel.

Thought that too. But if you look at item #9, it has both listed as #9 as the panel. one hdpe and one metallic.

If you pick then vent on that side, it's 7.99 which seems accurate.

but still not clear on the flat black panels for less than $50. heck of a lot cheaper than people's pull offs if that is the case!

I'd guess molded color. I know my red pro panels were molded red, painted red metallic, black were molded black and did not appear to be painted, white were molded a blank color and painted gloss white. Looking at Indy and RMK panels, didn't see a difference. Hoods are different. They are molded in different colors, and I've been told by a tech that the red panels are more brittle. Just hearsay.

All of the side panels I've seen on Mountain sleds are TPO... and are paintable... HDPE is very difficult to paint.... and when painted, does not stick well when the panel is flexed or beaten on.

HDPE is a complely different kind of plastic than the more common, more expensive TPO panels... but since all of the mating parts are the same, except for colors, on the other sleds... I'd bet they would fit no issues.

It shows 5439283-070 as a unique part to ONLY the 2013 600 Indy... a very basic model.

HDPE is the same material that the bellypan is made of.
The black would have the same texture and look as the bellypan.

Looks to me like there is a unique, Black, $60each side panel that was avail on one sled for one year. (2013 600 indy)... Now the white 550F HDPE panels and the Voodoo-Blue HDPE 2014 600 Indy panels cost over $200 each.

If you are wrapping your sled or like the plain black color... this would be a good choice IMO.

If you buy them...post up pics.

PANEL-SIDE,LH HDPE,BLK (5439282-070) Snowmobiles $50.99

It's possible that this is a glitch in the computer system that Polaris never caught onto and has been selling these black panels for too cheap??

Saw your sled. Almost cried. It looks nice in pics, but even better in person.
