Shovel on tunnel?

Does anyone make a rack, etc, that you can easily attach a shovel
to that fits on the tunnel of an XP? I'm thinking some sort of clips
at the back and a bracket near the rear of the seat......
Or how about a tunnel bag that you can stow one in easily?

(I know, carry one in your backpack....but, I hate wearing
backpacks)

thanks

I know it is unthinkable but polaris's tunnel bag holds a shovel real nice..it is right there easy to get at too...

well if your cool with the possibility of not having your gear on and loosing lives to avys, then i guess you can just get some spare belt clips, like the ones on the REVs that hold the belt, rivet two on the tunnel and away you go, but i think not wanting to wear a backpack is a pretty lame excuse to put yourself and MAINLY the lives of others at risk.

No problem, I have 4 polaris's as well!

Skiddooinit......No lecture's please! That's a whole other thread.....
I have been back and forth on the whole backpack issue, but the truth is
I'm not convinced it is any better....quick access is the key and knowing what to do without panicking will save more lives than having a backpack
with a shovel vs having one on your sled!

Ya, I too would like to find something better than my tarp strap solution on the tunnel,,, I would like to find something simple and light, out of aluminum with a nice rubber strap to hold it down snuggly,,, PLease post what you find.

LOL, I knew it wouldn't be very long before you got a reply,,, I hate backpacks too (bad back), plus I think the chance of my sled being burried, and the likelyhood that I will be required and healthy enough to shovel others out are extremely low,,, my back and injuries to it from falling off and landing on a pack of metal on my back are a lot more likely (IMO for my situation), about once a year I land on my back after an unplanned dismount, but as you said different topic, and each to their own,, perfect world I would wear one, and have a satphone and 3days supplies in it and whatever else you can think of,,,, heck, have a heli with medical staff following me around if money was no object,,,.

I would not recommend A shovel on your tunnel.

I was involved in an avalanche last year. If my shovel would have been mounted on my sled I would not have been able to dig anyone out, much less dig out my sled. For your own safety and for those around you, the backpack is the safest way. Note the picture below.

Ski-Doo makes a back pack that I purchased last year that comes with buckles designed to fit specifically on the XP. It has a slot for the shovel blade and shovel handle. I mounted my spare gas tank on the rear and the back pack between the seat and the gas can. It also has other compartments that can hold extra clothing or beer. I had the ski-doo tunnel bag on my old REV and could not put beer in there as they would bouce around. In the back pack they are tight and have not busted one yet!
I think it was around $80.00 and worth every penny.

I still use a small back pack with a second shovel and probe just in case of an avy.

Everytime someone says the "S" word you always get someone else wanting to give an Avy traing course. Not everyone that wants to carry a shovel rides Avy country. Some people carry them and Snobunjies just to get their non-XP riding friens unstuck.

I have the Ski-Doo backpack/tunnel bag, I plan on using it on the tunnel the way in on the trail then strapping it to my back once in. I also have a TNA tunnel bag that holds a shovel that I have setup with the same mounts to use when not in the mountains and there is no reason to carry a load on my back. If I really feel like I need to carry a excess load with me I can strap both bags and my gerry can on the tunnel. If you just want a set of clips to hold your shovel, SOS makes a set to mount it to your sled.

Seems like as soon as you mention shovel everyone pictures steep mountain riding avys digging out people, while yes this is a serious subject that can't be taken lightly, there is also just riding in deep snow in some hills out in the bald a$$ prairies when it's just needed to dig out your stuck sled.

Ooops too slow on that comment I see.

Didn't skidoo used to sell a bracket that mounted to their belt guard that their shovel snapped into ?

Last year I ran the Polaris shovel bag on my sled. This year I will do the same. However I will also be wearing a backpack with a shovel in it as well. so when i'm stuck I can have a spare shovel for whoever forgot theirs.

Thanks for the ideas...I'm thinking of maybe getting some
rubber blocks, 1" square, running a bolt down through them to
mount on the back of the tunnel, 1 on each side, and cutting a groove
in the front that the shovel blade would slide into....then something
up front for the handle to snap into (like a spare belt holder) then
somehow rig a small bungee or velcro strap to keep it in place....

patent pending.....

melt

i heard the bags on the tunnel melt from cooler heat, those wall clips probably need a strap too, backpacks i cant resist putting too much crap in, and the polaris shovel that goes with the rack is FRAGIL plastic bladed! ill probably velcro it somewhere???

I ride with tech a, I trust my life to him each and every time I hit the big stuff with him. This man is one of a handfull of riders that if gawd forbid, I ever get buried, that I want on top trying to save me even if he only had a tree limb or bare hands, I know my life would be safest in his abilities.

Lame you say................. Hardly.
