should i take off electric start

I am buying used 07 800 x with a 159 it has electric start . im 39 i dont need that and the weight thing how hard is it to take off and how long will it take and does anybody want to buy it?

i had one on my 06 and didn't want it so i removed it. pretty easy, remove the battery and fish the wiring out from around the engine. the starter has 4 bolts to the engine case. you can get at 3 of them with a wrench and the last one you need to remove the swaybar bracket to get at the hole to access it.

Call me a pu$$y but i love my estart, I wouldn't take it off.

Agree 100%!!!!

The benefits of the e-start FAR, FAR exceeds the little bit of weight. Recoil issues goodbye!

Do yourself a favor. Try it for two good rides and then make the decision one way or the other. You'll be glad, I guarantee it!!!

My 05 was snowchecked with it and I remember saying I'll remove that for sure. My next 2 sleds have e-start.

IF, you decide to take the e-start off of your 07 you are going to need the jumper wires for a non e-start sled.
As for the e-start, leave it on, I doubt you will notice the weight difference w/o it, and it's sure alot easier starting the sled after being stuck!

my 09X is the first sled I have had with e-start and i can assure you, they will all have it from now on!!!

If I had known that ski-doo was going to give everybody the two year warranty, i would have ordered it on my XRS

e start

man i was feeling like kind of a ***** for the electric start but listening to you guys i should leave it on . I can see the point about starting it after getting stuck just tryin to keep weight down

39 huh? When a buddy told me I was going to start hurting in the morning when I turned 40, I told him he was full of it.
Now I am in my 40's, every thing on me hurts in the morning. Pulled the rope on my 05 800 this year and dislocated my shoulder on the first pull in the garage.
Leave on the e-start. My next sled is going to have it for sure.

My dads 46 with his 03 polaris 800 and he's never complained (withought E-start). If someone was giving them out for free or at a good price i'd buy them for our sleds in a heart beat... Keep it for sure. What does it add, 20-30lbs?

The extra weight could be compensated for by pushing back away from the dinner table sooner!....kidding. Have on both of our 09 X's...love it...especially after digging the wife out!
Keep it and enjoy it.

I am not sure about the kind of riding you do, but when you get stuck on a climb and have to roll you sled over to get it out of its hole and back on its feet it will alway be flooded. To the tune of 10 -15 pulls on the recoil starter. That is when a fat boy like me realy appreciates my electric start! I love it!

Electric start is just a band-aid for not having fuel injection. I don't have electric start but after a few floods in the steep and deep, it would have been nice to have that band-aid.

I had estart on my 07 and miss it. I now have an 08 that doesnt have it. I planned on taking it off and selling it on the 07 but never did. It is weight, but not all that much as a % of the total weight, especially when you add a huge bag on the back, gas and the weight of all the snow in the track etc. The 08 is pretty easy to start with the pull cord, far easier than any of my RMK's. It's mainly the first start on a cold AM when I really wish I had the button.

I bought the electric start from a guy who didn't think he wanted it either... He is regretting it.. If you do take it off, you will need the harness as mentioned.- it is under the dash on the left side. 3 bolts on the starter and a couple on the battery box. Takes about 30 min to swap in the parking lot with minimal tools.

I bought a 07 with e start. All my buddies gave a rash of $hit about it, now they all envy it. My 09 has it and so will ALL the rest of my sleds in the future.:beer;:D

Age is not part of the equation - I am 28 and so glad I got e-start on my '09. Watching tethair roll and flood a few times confirmed to me I made the right choice! haha.

100% after next year (ETEC 800 I hope!), you'll never need E-start on a doo again!
