Should I Steer Away From a 2017 154x3"?

I've found a excellent deal on a 2017 850 154x3" summit x with 1 full season of warranty remaining.

I'm wondering if the 2017's are as bad as this forum makes them out to be, for about 150 bucks I could change to the updated motor mounts and add the vented side panel kit that the 2019's come with. If the updated clutch cover doesn't work well with out the fins on the secondary I would consider adding a blow hole.

I intend to run a DJ clutch kit as I always have in all my sleds.

The current owner has about 600 miles on it with no problems aside of blowing 1 belt around 450 miles which coming off an XM concerns me but I don't know if I would call it a belt eater.

My question is other than not having the fins on the secondary clutch is there really any differences between this 2017 and a 2019 has anything to the engine or any major components changed?

It seems like the 2017's get a bad wrap but is there any real specific issues that the 2019's don't also have?....other than clutching and a weak bulkhead?

Thanks!

Before my 17 burned up, there is now a recall for the fuel rail/line my 17 ran fine although the clutch just wasn't as dialed in as in the newer models from what I've heard concerning performance. If you buy and if he hasn't I'd recommend cutting a hole in the center of your clutch cover, like stock on the newer ones, for cooling. I blew a belt at 750 then did this and didn't blow another. It burned up with around 2,200 miles on it. I do think I remember changing a belt in between out of precaution but can't be certain. It all seemed very sled specific vs across the entire line as far as problems. I did use more oil than on my XM, just fyi. Make sure to do that recall before the season if you purchase.

Buy it.I have 3 in different length tracks.Get a mountain fit 4 piece vent kit, remove all the insulation around engine, buy a sled head racing clutch kit,use a HPS can ,put on a Rasmussen front bumper .Cut a hole in the secondary clutch cover and cut the bottom off of it also.I agree get the few warranty updates done on it.Ride it

Or for that kind of money just buy a new one. :)

Removing the insulation is easy as ids cutting a hole in the clutch cover. I didn't did the rest of those items listed, not that they would hurt but a front bumper doesn't help it to run good, and mine ran fine.

Guess i should not have mentioned the front bumper ,your right it doesn't run any better, rest of the stuff is very easy, and i would say if you are not doing a different clutch kit you could be missing out.Just my opinion and everyone on here has one.Ride on

I have a 17 with 1800 miles on the original belt. I haven't done the engine mount updates since it runs so good as is. They are not all turds.

I HATED my 17 sleds. I sold one in the middle of the season because I was scared that I was going to get stuck with it. I am easy on belts, but they died regularly.
18 sleds were better, still ran hot on belts.
19 sleds DIALED, normal belt life as XM sleds.
Soooo.
I have a bud who has a 17 with 1000+ miles on original belt, he got a good one. He does NOT ride easy.
There were some that were set up right, the ones that weren't sucked.

My son had a 2017 summit 850 ,first motor blew up with less than 1000 km .Replacement motor was broke in shipping ,waited over a month to get the sled back .It was a belt eater ,one went through the pan which had to be replaced .Sled quit in the bush ,dealer replaced coil .Sled quit again towed out .Son traded it on a 2019 and it has been fine ,still on original belt ,do not know the km.
