Should I gut my Viper airbox

I am not a 100% sure but I don't think it is something you want to do! They put those horns in there for a reason. I read somewhere before to leave them alone! I wouldn't mess with it unless you are modifying the whole sled.

I.E. pipes, intake, reeds, and plan on running egts.

Go to Totallyamaha.com and you will get real answers for your ?'s

the yammi tripples are very sensitive to air flow I second totallyamaha site for tips The MM motor had a couple mods you could do but dont gut the box on those.

Viper Air Box

The 2004 MNT Viper I bought in September has motor mods (crank case & cylinder porting, trimmed/balanced pistons, Peak Head domes machined to match porting), triple pipes, boysen reeds. It also has the RAM Air opened up and Flo Rites on the dash. The air box has the baffle part removed.

Sled pulls hard. I may have to try putting the baffle back in to see if it makes a diffierence, but right now I would say I like the way it performs. (the fellow I bought the sled from had NOS installed but I had him take it off)-I dont need it.

more air means more fuel, means more power, you may have to play with your jets a little bit, go bigger on them. Because when you look at it do you see any drag sleds with an air box, they dont because there really restrictive.

My dealer set mine up without the shelf in the box. Runs great on the non powder days, but in over the hood powder it runs out of air. I vented the plugs over the ramairs and did the dash as per hartman. On snowy days every thing gets plugged up and it cant get enough air. Also got rid of all under the hood air because of steam off the pipes. I put pre filters over all the intakes but still gets to much snow on the air filter, pre filter on the air box just got wet and plugged up.

You should get the best power and drivability with the shelf in but opened up Shelve (got a drill?) Same with the Air box .
Try to maintain the volume of the resonance chamber but allow more Air flow.
On a full mod engine you can get to the point where you gulp enough Air that the larger chamber of the whole Airbox works better but most trail mod motors work best with the shelve in.
