should i buy a used pro rmk turbo

hey guys i was going to see what some of your opinions were on a deal i might go through with. i am looking at an 11 pro rmk with a silver turbo kit, i am new to the turbo world but believe i would enjoy the work behind it (not the money) because im a snowmobile gear head. but i don't want to skrew myself with something thats going to not last long, the sled has 1900 miles and the turbo has a little over 450 everything seems to be in perfect shape and im buying for a steal of a price, what are some issues you think i might run into. i ride from 10,000 - 13,000 feet in powder and only ride to trail 5% of the time.
 
you think it will just blow up as soon as i get it? i have a view friends who are pushing 3000 miles and being turbod from day one do you know how long these things life expectancy are, i know its different for every one but still

I don't own a pro, but would consider one if I were in the market for a new sled, but if you have buddies with 3000 miles on the 800, you are lucky!(or they are). Do a search, seems like a lot of failures between 600 and 1200 miles. I know of 2 people that had the crack go out twice in one season, covered by warranty, but still. Another friend says as tempting as it may be, he won't own one because he got burned by the 800 so bad.

Hit and miss maybe? Too bad a guy couldn't find stats for engine failures.
 
Seems like a big risk. this year seems to be a better year for not hearing about many engine failures, but earlier years you sure heard about alot. Figure what it may cost you if things go bad and just go into it knowing that could be a possibility. Its just a crap shoot, but it is with any used sled. hope the price is right
 
Depending on what fuel controller is on it the Silber kits can be very hard to tune and get to run right. Check out the Polaris turbo section and read up. It mat affect your decision.
 
Really is a gamble………but if you buy it cheap enough you will be OK. Plan for a rebuild at some time in the near future.

Buying a used turboed sled that might be someones elses problem right now with no turbo experience is pretty scary stuff. I know some real "gear heads" that jumped into the turbo world cheaply and it was a humbling and expensive experience for some of them.

The motor issue is blown way out of proportion IMO. Would anyone buy a turbo 2-stroke of any brand and consider new pistons out of the question once you started getting over 2,000 miles? Even if you want to do a rebuild for piece of mine, RKT has great replacement pistons for $375. If you are a decent mechanic and put that together yourself....what is that in the world of snowmobiling? I have that invested in a couple superclamps....
 
The motor issue is real and its not just a few people on here that its happened to I've seen plenty that are not even on here 6/1200 miles is about right. Any sled can go down just some more than others. If you can live with it and can afford it buy it and ride it. Its just money
