Shortening Track and skid

Hi. How hard would it be to shorten the track on my 2005 RMK 900 151 to a 136? What should I look out for?

I have 3 2005 RMK's (2-151 and 1-166) and my son wants a sled he can use on and off trails in MN. He wants a dragons/switchback. So in my head I though why not change the track and skid on one of my RMK's (cheaper than a new sled) since it is "basically" the same. I have the opportunity to buy a skid/suspension from a 2008 or 2009 Dragon.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

i was wondering this same thing. i have an 05 900 with a 166" track in the process (hopefully) of a rebuild but for what i ride in Iowa i dont need a track that long and was thinkin bout shortening it. Any ideas?

Good post!

Z-Man. Are you saying that I would only need a track and skid/suspension to get to a 144?

yes thats what he is saying my 144 2005 switchback 900 (now 151) has the same frame as a 2005 rmk 151 so if you could find a switchback 144 suspension and track you are golden

so does the 155 have the same frame as the 159 and 166? i wouldnt mind shortening to a 159 but would rather do a 155.

Yep - the only difference is the length of the tunnel extension. Then there is the mount for the rear skid itself which has the two locations - the one closer to the front for the shorter (151 and less) and the furthest from the front for the longer skids.

Just finished my swap from a 151 to a 144 with 1.3 lug. It was for my 13 year old son who does mostly trail riding. With some great advice from monster715 the swap was very easy. First time I ever did anything like it and took my son and me 2 hours. Also changed the front shocks to WE clicker and the spindles to dragon style. Now my son wants it so snow...now. He basically has a Dragon/Assult suspension with a 900 engine.
