Short snow flap affect cooling?

I have a '13 M8 LE with the short cooler. I did the brake light relocation mod and put on a proven designs Proclimb flap. The flap is 18" long. it keeps getting sucked up into the track. every ride it gets sucked up several times.

if i were to trim it shorter (similar to other mods I have seen), will it affect the cooling of the LE? The LE's tend to run a bit hotter and generally need to have the scratchers down on the trail. Will the shorter flap compound the cooling difficulties?

thanks

I have a '13 ltd., I cut down my stock flap and rounded off the edges, looks great. Rooster tails like a mo fo tho... Only overheats after a minute or so of running on ice or hard hard pack, but as soon as it hits the looser snow it never overheats

450 miles havent had to use my ice scratchers yet

My snowflap has been gone for 470 of my 479 miles, zero heating problems with the scratchers down on the trail in and out. If there is a bit of fresh (like an inch) i havent had a problem without the scratchers down. It got stuck under the track the first 2 times i backed off my deck so now it sits in the corner with the factory skis, rail tips, steering post bushing, foam, hand guards, tunnel bag, bumper and any other stuff that was complete junk.

Yes you have. You have just bypassed that need by jumping off the trail. I put 300+ mi on without having to slow down and jump off the trail to cool down....because I use scratchers.

The LE has a short cooler and the benefits to this are obvious. One drawback is that it will overheat faster. To compensate for this AC puts scratchers on the sled. Why people try to resist using them so much is beyond me. It takes longer to stop and pee than to put the scratchers down. They are put there for a reason. :face-icon-small-con I don't get it.

No, no I haven't. I haven't rode a trail yet, just icy roads for a minute or 2 goin thru towns, then back to the pow. Nice of you to tell me what I've done tho

We just did some testing on these with different mountin positions and such on the 13's as we just found out that with the 2.6" lug on the track it tends to bite the flap and suck it in.

We tried a couple different angles on the snowflap to see if it helped and finally tested with a simple strap holding it out some and found that to be the ticket. We also put a spacer inbetween the rear end and the flap to push it out a bit but found the strap worked best.

Like i said we JUST found this out about a week ago and have only had a couple incidents of this but wanted to chime in. Please feel free to PM me with any questions, more than happy to help.

Thanks

Didn't mean to come across like a d!ck(kinda did tho:nono:), my only point was that because you have had instances of overheating, even briefly, these could have been avoided by running your scratchers AC provided. That being said if it is a minute or 2 at a time, then it may not pay to stop and put em down.

When we leave the back country there always seems to be a min or two sittin at the trail waiting to make sure we have everyone....I take that time to throw down the scratchers quick so that I can HAUL down the trail rather than slowing down, finding a safe spot to dive off, etc every 5 min. MHO.....no more. :face-icon-small-ton

When I installed mine it got sucked up by the track every time let off the throttle.

Later that day I trenched it in and got stuck, after that it never happened again.

My suggestion is to prop the back of it up "in a upward u" overnight and see if it will keep that new form.

No issues with cooling and mine only hang down about 6". Picked that length to keep them from getting sucked up in the track along with not blocking snow being flung out the back when you're digging that big trench right before a stick.

No problems running cold hard trails and only need the scratchers down if it's more than 4-5 miles.

the cheapest and first mod i did was take a utility knife to my flap and shorten it up...i cut along the curved lines above where it says Arctic cat....not for only looks but i also had to so can back it off my sled deck.
