What exactly is a short block? and are all 900 motors a short block?? I was under the impression a short block was a engine with no head installed.. I have tracked down a rebuilt engine but the seller is saying it's a short block I would think all 900 liberty engines would be the same?

The term Short block usually indicates the following parts are included: Crank, Case, Pistons, Cylinders, Head.
A long block would include all the above and add the following: Stator, flywheel, recoil, waterpump, oil pump, coil, CDI, throttle bodies/carbs, etc.
At least thats what I use to describe a short block vs a long block.
The easiest thing to do is ask the seller what their definition of a short block is.

I would say short block is block crank rods built.
