short block burndown 170mi??

hey guys i just had a new shortblock installed in my 2005 800 summit. i have rode the sled 170 miles since the install and the pto side stuck. i let it cooldown and worked the clutch back and forth and it came loose. the plug has all kinds of little alluminum spec on it. the motor is completely stock other that a spi pipe. i was running stock jetting and the plugs were real dark brown prior to the happening. what could have caused this?

Carb boot leak? End seal leak? Wrong jetting or plugged jet? Most pipes need bigger jetting, I don't know about your SPI.

i checked the carb boots and they are good. the guys at spi told me that stock jetting is ok at 1500FT. the carbs were just off and cleaned when the shortblock was put in. does the 1 year warranty on the shortblock cover the topend?

I don't know. I would hope if a dealer did the assembly/install they would have checked out everything and take care of it if they made a mistake or missed something.

Sounds to me like the dealer installed the pto side crank seal incorrectly. I would ask them to see the old crank seal. If it is cracked, smashed flat, and/or in any other form broken then I would make them cover costs to repair the top end. If you had the dealer put the top end on the short block then I would make sure they cover the damages no matter what.

short block come completely assembled, crank seals come already installed.why did it blow up the first time.

the first time was the pto bearing. i was told by the mechanic it came in with a bad pto bearing b4 and the just replaced it. i bought it and it lasted 31 miles and locked up. i had to pay 1900 bucks to get it fixed and now 3 weeks and 170 miles later the pto piston stuck so i don`t no what it going on.

Just because the short block came assembled from the factory doesn't mean everything was installed properly.....if this turns out to be the case....this will be the third time I have heard of it happening

i guess thats what im getting at,thats why you got a dealer to install a factory rebuild motor so you would not have this problem, you should be dropping off your sled for a new short block[no question asked] a little paper work for the dealer no big deal, when i worked at a doo dealer i did warrenty claims ,and yes your not the first have this problem, hopefully your dealer stands behind you:pray2::boink:

hey guys turned out that the pto side case had a crack in one of the waterjackets and spilled antifreeze onto the exhaust side of the piston. the dealer said they will have to send pics and talk to ski doo to see if they will warranty it. how would they not warranty something like that after only 170 miles?

It should just be a formality, but it should be warrantied. If Doo balks. I'd be raising holy hell.
