Shoping for a camp trailer.

If you were looking for a camp trailer that can handle 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) each kid needs a seperat bed. I do have a wheelers and a trailer. But I do not take them every time. I am guessing about a 22 to 25 ft trailer.

I have a Chevy 3/4 ton four door w/ 454 to pull it.

Do you go Fifth wheel or Bumper pull?
And why?

No wrong answers I just want you opinions.

Thanks, Lt. Rascal

This is what I got last yr. 28' toy hauler. In the area where the wheelers go there are 2 queen beds that hoist up to the cieling, and then down for use. Plus another queen in the front. Perfect for us 4. I would like the 5th wheel, but it is taller than the bumper pull, and I go into some fairly hairy places where height is an issue. 5th pulls soooooo much better, with the weight over the pickup axle, not pulling down on the bumper. Just my .02

I had a bumper pull trailer, liked it, no major complaints, but will be going with a 5th wheel next, about a 25ft and then put the watercraft trailer behind that. Every body I have talked to have said the same thing, 5th wheel pulls much better than any bumper pull. Looked at the trailers with the cargo area. Seems to me your paying for space that really isn't usefull area and if you want to use it for hunting camp could get a little cold. Didn't seem like the seals on the cargo door were all that good.

I would go the toy hauler route. I went bumper pull because they were more cost effective but are not as easy to pull. The same size fifth wheel was 5K more and I lost the use of the bed of my truck. Just didnt see worth it. Mine however, even 31', is the easiest pulling bumper pull trailer I have ever seen so i dont regret the choice. I haul my sleds, my sand rail, four wheelers and even a boat in mine. Not at once mind you but they are very versitile buggers. Its for sale, I think if I went back to do all over again, I would have went motorhome with cargo trailer. So thats what I am working towards. Love the toy hauler though.

Just dont go cheap on them, do your homework and get a good built one. Pay more attention to structure than inside frills. the more frills, the more it will break, and it does break!!

Take mine hunting every year. Last year 15 below for 20 streight days in 2 feet of snow. Never a problem with being cold. Most Toy haulers are built for being in the dunes so are insulated heavily to keep the heat out, thus keeps the heat in in the winter. Go good quality (Weekend Warrior, Dune Chaser {mine}, Adrenilin, ect) and you wont have a problem with the doors.

Oh and have a winch installed to pull the toys in with, life saver!!!

Go to RV.net and do your research. Also research the manufacture. A lot have been shutting their doors over the last few months as well as the dealerships. The RV market is getting hit real bad in this economy. EX: Weekend Warrior who basically pioneered the Toy Hauler market is gone. Snow River, a truck camper manufacture, just anounced they are shutting their doors also.

I've had a few truck campers in the past. Decided to by a 93 travel trailer based on size on and price. I would prefer a Toy Hauler or Large Truck Camper but right now I am trying :) to conserve funds.

I hope I made the right decision, I just bought one of these....

I figured if I can't get both sleds in the trailer, I will put one in the back of my truck for extra weight. I am looking forward to making some trips this winter.
