So we come to this again, The Fairview shootout will be a better event if it was not held on the first weekend of April. Correct me if I'm wrong, the fairview shootout started "X" years ago as a casual get together of the fastest sleds around to face off in a casual manner at Fairview. The date was decided solely on the fact that Jackson was the last weekend in March (the weekend snowking mtn closes for skiing every year). Thus allowing for those attending this final race of the year at jackson to come and face off in a more casual manner at fairview to test there machines speed against any others who dared. Since the beginning of the fairveiw shootout many changes have occured. The internet was invented thus allowing for this forum, Jackson is no longer the last race of the year in the hillclimb curcuit, other sledding get togethers have been organaized and are held the same weekend (yamafest) The weather has been an issue every year which puts a damper on having any races, and vendors are not able to be more then one place at once. These and other issues have come since the shootout started so long ago. So lets move the date of the shootout, no one person can make this desicion but there are a few here who could and should make a change to better this event for the majority of sledders who are interested in the fairview shootout. It might just take one or two big hitters to not come, Did MMM shoe up this year? Did anyone from Canada come to defend the maple leaf? Did Freak get to walk the walk? Modern day technology allows for adjustments like this to take place. Someone make a desicion and spread the word, not everyone uses these forums but word spreads very easily in the sledding community. Vendors who care to be at an event will take the time to find out when it is and will make it a priority to be there. Fairview is a great event and a great place to hold this shootout, lets do something about the changes in the last 20 years that have made this event kind of a dud and a hastle. Maybe later in April, Maybe earlier in March, someone make a desicion and lets get it done right. :)

S i didnt read your epistle but Im sure you mentioned the historical fd up weather lets MOVE it. Im not a racer but I love the shoot out this is the first year in years I didnt go. i told Freak if there was a 1% chance of snow I was out. I damn near spent the night there one year I dont ever want to do that again!

Moving the shootout to early March sounds pretty logical to me.... any later in April could be sketchy for good snow on years when snow is hard to come by.... Its sure tough to hit two big race weekend that are back to back.....

maybe................. move it too the day just before sunday, after the first monday,of April..................:p

peace out,

i say move the weather and build a bigger parking lot

Haha me too. Atleast there is a parking lot now.....

What happens when it gets moved, and the next year has sh!tty weather? Move it again.......? This would be like the cat chasing it's tail, when do you stop? Last year the weather was fantastic, this year not so much. It's winter, best get used to it.

Someone wanna move it, go ahead, it wont matter it will still have a 50 50 chance or better of snow. given the location of fairview it only needs a few clouds in the valley to be a whiteout.

fairview is over-rated. May you could swap weekends with the kiters. (probablly shouldn't use those words in the same sentance, swap and kiters.)

My thoughts were moving it so a guy can go to Jackson & Fairview without being put out three days, two weekends in a row.... You can't change a whiteout, its going to be 50/50 like Freak said...

and I will all but guarantee one thing. If it ever gets moved then the weekend its held will be a whiteout and the week after jackson will be beautiful. murphy

The shootout was advertised as a Sat-Sun event. I hung around after the event and Sunday was beautiful. Race bowl had over the hood powder in the morning and no tracks.

I didnt know the shootout was advertised. Someone may say they are going sat sun but there has never been anything on sun that i know of. for that matter you could make it a week long event if you choose. :D

HEy watch it.....:)

The Snowkitemasters has been just as iffy.
To much of a whiteout or lack of wind, some days,
but killer the next day. Visa versa.
Seems like the day after the event (monday)
is always the best

IMO doesn't matter when you hold an event, the weather always kicks a@@ the day you have to go home or the day you have to work;) we should poll to work 2 days and have 5 off:D:beer;:D
