Shock debate: Fox vs W/E

So, I can't decide between keeping my Walker Evans Needle shocks on my IQR, or going with the Fox Float Evol R's, or forking out a little more cash and getting the Evol X's. I'm mainly concerned about soaking up the big hits as much as possible, but a plush ride is nice too. :)

What are your guys opinions on these shocks and why?

I would look into Zbro's, If I was going to do shocks all over again I would definatly go with a set of triple rate spring zbros built for my riding style. You get the best of all worlds with small bump to big hit absorbtion (not even sure if thats a word) with dual or triple rate springs and proper valving. just my .02 cents.

I would have Carl's Cycle build me a set of Fox. I tried to make the WEs work for me and finally gave up.

The Walkers have evolved greatly (the coil spring type) in the last few years.

What year do you have.

Trip rate springs and rework from a Walker specialist changes the nature of the shocks greatly.

EVOL X's are about $1500 now... $1100 for the Exits.... $600 for the Zero pros (single rate springs and no compression adjust)... Ohlins are about $1800. Float Evol R's... about $950.

If setup by the right shop and valved correctly by someone who's specialty is the WE shocks.. you should get great performance from them.

It all depends on what you want to spend.

X2. I've got the triple rate springs and ZBroz Exit X0 fronts. Great setup. Next sled I'll be looking at the Exit X2's with dual rates from Monster Performance and Custom.

If your thinking about Evol R's & have the budget for it, just go ahead and get the Evol X's. I run them on my 2010 D8 and couldnt be happier. The ZBros Exit shocks are just as good but, you cant adjust the Zbros whenever or whereever like you can with the Evols. As for big hits and a plush ride, you get the best of both worlds with the Evol X's and Zbros Exits. If you do get Evol X's, order them from Carls and get Carls valving to go with them. I have the stock valving in mine but am planning to order Carls valving before the season starts. Just my .02. Hopefully F-Bomb will chime in on this subject as well.

i havent ran the evol x's or r's on my sled, but have run the zero pros and thought they were a joke. This year I ran a set of 2010 W/E needles set up by max from tri-city performance and they are hands down the best shocks i have ever ran. great down the trail, even better in a side hill, soaked up the big hits great as well. couldnt be happier with mine. If i were you taylor rather than dumping a bunch of coin, give max a call and see what he can do with your shocks to make them fit your riding style, you will not be dissapointed. pm and i can give you his number

Hey thanks jeremy, I think i'll go down that route. I'll send you a PM..not on snowest though...

"Yea man...not much has changed in 30 years" said Tommy Chong through a smokey haze

Hopefully if you go with a single setup shock they'll get your style nailed the first time (and then that is what you do for the rest of the time)....or EVOL X and do it yourself as you please. I've found with mine there are all kinds of variables that are nice to change depending on all of the situations that we encounter. Once you've experienced a dial in system that is just right all others are some level of sacrefice some time or another.
