shipping a motor

My buddy sold a Polaris 800 twin motor to a guy in Washington. We need to figure shipping but I have no clue as to weight. I dont want to be too far under or over to keep everybody happy. Anybody know what the complete motor weighs dry?? Dimensions??

i shipped a few 670 rotax'z just engine alone was around 80. I used fedex freight to puerto rico, Guy was building some crazy twin engine sand rail

i have shipped and recived a few motors.. if you can get it to fit in a cooler its the only way to go.

I brought a motor to the local Polaris dealer and had them ship it for me. Cost wasnt too bad and I believe they were able to re-use packing from factory motors sent to them.

I sent one Fedex with clutch and stator, about $75. Can't remember the weight, somewhere around 100 lbs, definately under 150. Cooler is best, next is to build a crate out of plywood and bolt it to the crate and stuff the bejesus out of it with foam, etc.

Don't go UPS, heard horror stories of dropped motors.

Edit: if you want to weigh it, put it on a block on the bathroom scale, should be close enough. I weigh suitcases by holding them, then subtracting my weight, and I'm usually within a pound at the airport. Motors may be a bit heavy for that method.

the buyer recommended that my friend use a rubbermaid container. I think he would be better off with a cooler. the dude drops two large on a motor and wants to ship it in a 8 dollar box. who knows.....

Old thread on motor shipping. Used Poo crate is the way to go. Or the factory would use a cooler.
clicky
