Groomer and NFS recreation coordinator Bob Fernes says all is groomed as of today.

Snowfall is 132% of normal at this point in time.

Snow is at stop sign at Sherman pass and this is after it settled.

All meadows have at least 4 feet except beach meadow has between 3-4 feet.

Unload at 4x4 area exit with 5 plus feet at staging area , lower level at 7000 feet where they keep the snowcat.

Is this area like mammoth with signs and easy to read maps? Do you have map ?

Here is a link to Sugarloafers.

It is clearly marked BUT you would be LUCKY to see another group of sledders on the weekend. It is that large and remote compared to other SOCAL riding areas. Plus many don't like the drive and how remote it is compared to MAmmoth. You can ride each day for a week and never cross tracks.

So ... if you were off trail and got lost you would be hard pressed to find a trail unless you see landmarks like a mountain / lookout tower / meadow or campsite

If you got into trouble there is a YURT and a locked up (winter only) full service forest station called Blackroack.

Access is from Kernville where the nearest gas station to the trailhead is 40 miles and the nearest "ranch" Durwood Inn is 15-20 miles depending on snow level.

The other access is from 9 mile road off the 395 by Pearsonville which ends at Sherman road by the upper level Kern river. There are a dozen or so vacation houses at Kennedy meadow and a couple seasonal stores in front of some residential homes.

I usually let the forest service know I am there and for what time preiod. Go with another rider and make sure there is GPS in the group.

The bnest think that makes it worth while for me. 99% of the people you meet are very nice ... no one complaining about sledders infact they are quite happy you are there using the forest properly.

In the summer time the trails are for off road truck or motorcycle.
