Setting up 15 FC450, have some questions

So I got my Husky a couple of weeks ago, took it for a test ride on a trail and some gravel roads, everything seems fine. So started to convert, attached a 15 TS LT and that fit fine. Now I have some questions on how to proceed.

Gearing now is 13 on the counter shaft and TS all 17, is this acceptable combination?

Fork springs, I asked the dealer to look into getting me .64kg/mm, not likely that they would be able to get them. What forks would work for my set up (im ~200lb), I would like to not revalve if possible? Where is a good place to get forks? Should I leave the oil that is in there or go with a heavier weight?

Air box, my plan was to get a unoiled filter and put a prefilter over it, see how that works.

Anyone have a good solution for pipe sheld? The dealer had a small 4 inch piece for like 80 bucks seems to be tool small.

I saw in an old thread someone had links to some kevlar fabric for engine shroud, but it kinda ended abruptly. Anyone make engine covers that work, looking for diy solution.

Thanks again, this forum has been a wealth of knowledge.

Here it is a work in progress.

Gearing 13-17 gearing is fine.

You can get .64kg fork springs here: http://www.cannonracecraft.com/
They're not listed, but call and he will build them.

Cut your airbox up and run a pod filter if you ride any powder at all. The Timbersled is a nice set-up.

I ran this pipe guard on my ktm. Simple and did the job for cheap.

Check out the moto365/sxs snowshield if you haven't already.

I'd also run a thermobob and a trail tech temp sensor if I were you. :thumb:

forget the new springs... get the airpro system for your forks.

15 FC450 doesn't have air forks. Springers.

Darren gave you a ton of good info. My Cannon Racecraft .64's for my 15 FC just showed up yesterday. Ran me about $130. I'm dropping those in with some 15w oil for the winter.

I also just got the shipping notification for the PST Engine Jacket (http://www.powersportstech.com/pst-engine-jackets.html). Good looking unit with some great reviews. Keep that engine warm and know your temps with the Thermobob TB3 and TTO Temp Sensor.

I forgot to mention, I have the thermobob with the two gauge. It seems to work, I have not ran it for a long time yet but it seems like it takes a while to heat up when idling.

The air pro fork system adds air to your springer forks, through the bleeder screws. I'm looking at getting that system for my fe501.

Do you have a link to the system? I wonder how the seals handle the additional pressure. So if I understand you right it is a retrofit to the spring fork to make it a hybrid air fork.

Good info. When I looked back at that picture of the KTM I noticed the 4CS logo was on top of the fork tubes.... they are springers. I just assumed they were for air forks only.

I'd like to hear from someone who has used the system for a season?

I emailed them directly yesterday. Confirming about being for springers.

Their response. "We make Airpros for spring type forks and airforks. We also make them for snowbikes that have bottoming issues. "

I'm going to try using my stick fork springs and valving. See how it goes then look into buying one of these.

I've only seen one person on a different forum saying they have it and they said they liked it. I'll try to find that post.

Mike.

Airpro looksinteresting, I also would like to see a review on these. I'm thinking about taking a screw drilling it and adapt a valve to it should not be too hard, just to see if it works. With stiffer springs and the airpro may be as good as a revalve ?

In my opinion adding air to the 4CS ( four chamber system) fork would lead to leaky fork seals.
I would just install 64kg springs and play with your compression and rebound, you can always add 10cc of fork oil to stiffen up the stroke.
Use a syringe to add oil thru your fork air bleeder screw hole. Make sure your bike is on a stand when reinstalling the air bleeder screws.

Air Pro

I emailed the guy direct from Air Pro. Granted he's the guy selling them but he claims they're the way to go. Said they've ran all the way up to 35psi in there and no problems with fork seals. He says with stock valving and springs 8-10psi makes all the difference in the world. A few of us in Missoula are going to give it a try.

I am excited to hear how this product works. If it really does work as advertised, it could be huge for the snow bikes. Just in cost alone it is way better. I paid $180 for my custom fork springs and that doesn't include oil and shop time to change them. Plus if you want to ride your bike in the summer you have to change them back. I will be interested to hear your results, Specifically if you have to constantly add air to them. I'm not really a fan of my air filled TSS. I wish it was an adjustable spring type shock. I spent a lot of time last year messing with it.

Just ordered the AirPro bottoming system for my KTM... I guess we'll see how they do! I found last year (first year snowbiking) I was bottoming out a lot even with them cranked up. hopefully this is a good fix as I use my bike in the summer a lot and dont want to swap springs...

Got down to installing the ski and the axle is smaller the the TS spindle. Then kit came off a KTM bike and everything else fit without issues. I suspect the KTM axle is thicker than the husky. I do have the two spacers that sit on the sides. The spindle on TS is 26.5mm and the axle is 22mm. The right fork is 26.5mm, and left is 22mm. Should there be another spacer or do I need a KTM axle?

I had a bike like that last year. Nice setup

Well I think that I need spacers for the front spindle to fit on the axle, visited my local polaris dealer and got the deer in the head lights look, then they told me that they will call me tomorrow. On line all I found was "contact you dealer for part". Anyone know of a good place on line to get TS parts? I just need a couple of spacers, even thought about making my own.

I think I just found some spacers, thanks to Gage Brothers Motorsports. Amazing the difference in service you get when someone that knows what you are taking about.

lundracing, you had the setup last year, what do you have now? Anything I should do or have to watch on mine?

Switch to new style lithium battery , starts so much better. Run a zero weight oil, I used ams oil 0W 40 . Don't use any motor shrouds or skid plates. My husky liked to run warm, the more you let the motor breath the better. Put stiffer front springs in. Otherwise I would just let her rip. It is a very good bike.

What are you guys doing for handwarmers and assuring the battery doesn't die?
