setting rear skid back anyone done this?

I have been reading that you can set rear skid back and achieve a poor mans drop and roll effect. I want to go from 136" x 1.75" track to a 151" x 2" track. Setting suspension will improve attack angle and also can use 144" rails. Anyone done this? Pros/cons? The sled is a 2000 rmk 700.
Any input would be apreciated. ps this being an older sled i don't wanna dump a heap of cash into it.
Thanx.

With 144 rails you'd need a 3.5" setback to run a 151 track. With that much setback it's going to significantly increase your ski pressure, and you'd probably need an anti-stab kit.

Cut out the STAB BAR?? Do you mean sway bar?? If I was you and I was before the snow flew I would get rail extensions and a tunnel extention. Very easy to do and works great. And yes get rid of the sway bar. Anti stab kits prevent the slide rails from stabing the track.

hey sledguy,

i had to do this so that i could fit a 2" paddle in my 99 xc 600. i used a rmk tunnel that was a stock 136, and had a welded extension to 141".

i dropped it down a lil bit so that it would clear the cooling tubes in the tunnel and pulled it back to help take up some of the slack in the track, and clear the front cooler.

also had to make drop brackets for the rear.

hope the info helps

dude it really simply i took a my 01 800 rmk 144 and put a 153 x 2.5 attack 20 on it last year i slid my skid back and everything worked fine you just got to get the right dimensions on how far back to go dont sweat it

Moving the suspension back is going to dramatically affect how it rides, steers and transfers weight.

Mr12valve did u leave your rails 144" and just set everything back? Did you notice anything with the handling, weight transfer etc? I just want to climb a little higher and improve powder riding and i'm thinking if i port the track it will be ok.

yes i used my 144 rails it made my ski pressure better and the approach angle better handles and rides awesome but i wouldnt port your track i havent talked to many people that like them ported all my skidoo buddies swapped theirs out cause they dont float enough in the powder

also if you do it this way you dont need an anti stab kit that will save you somewhere around a 100 bucks

I once saw something on the internet about doing this. It had dimensions and pics. Anybody know where to find it?
I want to put a 151 on my 2000 700 RMK. I was thinking of doing the susp. setback and a rail ext.
Am I going to upen up a can of worms as far as clutching and gearing though?

been through the whole process, set the skid back, make new plates , use rail extensions or a big wheel kit to take up track slop, all depends how detailed and expensive you wanna go, have holtz skid and big wheel to fit a 156 track, will selll brackets withit let me know parting out gen2 mod sled,
good luck
