Service Engine

My sled shows a service engine message at start up. It goes away once the sled is started. Anyone have a clue what this could be?

its a service message..it can be set to different intervals or turned off..read how in the owners manual(I forgot how since its been so long since I turned mine off)...

AK, do these sleds have codes that can be read? mine only started doing it since I did some work on it. I don't have a service manual. The little light never goes on though. thanks

they do have codes, but whenever it flashes a code(the small amber light on the guage), count the flashes..it will flash as an example a code "5"..will be 5 flashes followed by a pause and 5 more flashes...the ecm also will store codes that can be retrieved with the digital wrench ...

it never flashed, just started doing this upon startup, then goes off.

sounds like it is the service deal..you can turn it off by (lets see if I remember ), cycling your display to the max speed/mph display, cycle to the window that shows the service deal, then hold the green switch down till it cycles thru the different settings.....set it to off(or which ever interval you want..now it should stay off till it hits that interval ..(the owners manual shows how to set it too)

Thanks AK, I just didn't know if it was sensing something wrong as it would not hit over 8000 rpm at WOT. but it would hit 8000 rpm on about 3/4 throttle. so I was thinking maybe it was just too much oil since I added some to the tank to be safe and make sure it was pumping oil. Plugs looked good though.

how warm was air temps? I have noticed these sleds seem to richen fuel and retard timing in hotter air temps...

it was actually about 35 to 40 degrees. It was actually nice. I mixed it about 50 to 1 after I tore into it just to be safe. I marked the oil canister and it's DEFINITELY using oil. Oil was even coming out of the Ypipe, not pouring out but it dripped enough to cover that bottom plate alittle.

thats enough oil to bring the rpm's down some..most likely its fine then..get the oil burned out of it and get straight gas back into it...I had mine flashed with the new low elevation flash polaris just released a few weeks ago, much crisper at idle, richer in the mid and leaner up top...but it locked up 95 miles into a 135 mile ride first time out with it...not sure if it was a fuel map related seize or maybe lost something in the bottom end..should know this week..but it to was mid 40's in the afternoon when it happened....

800 CFI running rich at warmer temps

I noticed this past weekend that my sled started running rich when we came back down to the road at 3K feet & 40 degrees it started the mid range burble.

That evening it did the same thing until we went behind the mountains and the temp dropped and we started climbing to 4-6k feet it started ripping again. First time it has done that and it was warm weather related...

Oil use is pretty much 1qt of oil to each tank of gas.

thats one of the reasons I think jim's dyno results are scewed a little bit...he dynoed at 50 degrees, and if the new setup is like the old setup its gonna be down on power at those temps...down on timing and rich on fuel to protect the motor...both hp killers...

It was like clockwork when we hit the valley floor it was warm and it would start the burbles. Once we climed up the air was colder and it would start running great right around 4k elevation and 35 degrees.

We even checked it with GPS and a digital temp gauge.
