Series 5.1 track changes?

'09 was the 1st year of the current 5.1 track. Went to a single ply rather than 2-ply. And changed the configuration of the paddles slightly. In another post by diehardpoo, he just picked up his '13 and thinks the lugs seem stiffer, but not confirmed by Polaris. '09,10,11,& 12, for sure are the same.

According to the mfg of the tracks... the same durometer rubber has been used since the transition from the Series-5....

New tracks always seem stiffer... and wishful thinking for those in high moisture content snow.

Thanks for the feedback, now its just rails and a VE tunnel/bumper extension.

BTW, I now have a 155" 5.1 track and stock 155" rails for sale. Both in excellent condition.

Maintainhorse, I'd never doubt your information , BUT I have a '12 5.1 track hanging in my shop ready to go on my '11 assault. Fresh out of the box.
Today I stopped by the dealership, noticed a 13 prormk in the showroom. As I was googling over seeing the belt drive in-the-flesh! I remembered this thread and did some prying on the track lugs of the '13 5.1.
Gotta say, feels stiffer to me.

It would be cool to take some measurements (thickness of lug at diff points) and a quick durometer test to see... The mfg said same track... but I've not personally compared....

Ive talked to Chris at Carls cycle on this. He says same track, They apparently get more flexible once they hit the snow a little.
Carls would know for sure they have lots of both around and probably the most knowledgable dealer/performance shop around for Polaris

Looking at the picture in Die hard poo's thread called "2013 pro changes with pics" the track looked different then any other 5.1 that I've seen...My first thought was that the tips of the lugs looked like they were melted down slightly to make them shorter and thicker??

track change

i picked my 13 up yesterday.
Same track.
Looks like the ends have some extra rubber from the molding process.
It makes the track look thicker.
Bottom line is it is the same track.
Driving it around the yard and into the garage it felt like it went better because of weight.
I remember my dragon would just sit and spin if i tried to drive it on pavement. The lighter pro with the same track just plain works.
Last year i did the peak but this year i think I am sticking to stock.
I cant believe how light it feels when you drive it around the yard.
Hope this helps.

Track Durometer

Anyone out there with a Shore A durometer gauge could measure the new '13 track vs the ' 12 version & come up with the answer.

Like MH stated, tracks do probably soften up over time with use.

I have a gauge but don't have access to a '13 Pro yet.

turbonium did you contradict yourself? If it's the same track with thicker ends on the paddles it's not the same track. Or do you mean it's the same except for the thicker ends? Or the ends just look thicker but they aren't? Trimming those ends off last years track made a pretty remarkable difference in how the track performed, just those little nubs. Buddy and I had the same sled except for that and in the heavier snow or downhill his worked way better than mine. In the fluffy stuff I couldn't see a diff.

Track

I mean the molding process is a little messier.
So it looks like the track is thicker but it is not.
Same track only they made so many there mold is gettin loose...:face-icon-small-ton
