Selling a canuck sled in the US?

Found this at
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/FAQ Site/pages/page3.html

13. Importation of an off-road vehicle.

If the vehicle was not primarily manufactured for use on public streets, roads, and highways, it would not qualify as a "motor vehicle" that must comply with all applicable FMVSS, and bear a label certifying such compliance that is permanently affixed by its original manufacturer to be lawfully imported into the U.S. A vehicle that is not primarily manufactured for on-road use can be imported under Box 8 on the HS-7 Declaration form that is to be given to Customs at the time of entry. Such a vehicle is not subject to NHTSA’s jurisdiction, but may be subject to the jurisdiction of the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC). For information on the requirements, if any, that apply to these vehicles, you should visit the CPSC’s website at http://www.cpsc.gov or contact that agency at 1-800-638-2772.

Whistler, it's been a while since I sold a sled south of the border, but if they come and get it, they need bill of sale I believe is all, and they check into us side when going back down. It's alot easier to go down then to come up with one.

Another thing to do would be to contact brand X usa. tell them you are importing a canadian sled to the usa and ask them what all is required.
I know on street bikes you need a piece of paper work from the manufactuer in the usa stating it meets all noise and emission standards and some other stuff. If importing into the usa it has to be from the us office.
I was buying a kawasaki sport bike right around new year. The guy in the us in charge of making/sending the letters was off for a few weeks for the holidays. Left a bunch of messages and never got a reply. finally got a letter from kawasaki of canada stating the same thing. Their was a sticker on the motorcycle stating the same thing. Picked it up and when I tried to take it across the border they would not let me because I did not have a letter from kawasaki usa. I showed them the sticker on the bike and the letter from kawasaki canada and they would not let me take it in. Had to drop it off at a storage place in canada and pick it up a week later when I got the letter from kawasaki usa. I live about 9 hours from where I was crossing the border.
