Seized the motor in my Turbo M8

Well I went out ditch banging on my CPC Turbo M8, and had to tow it back to the trailer. EGT's got up to about 1250 puffed some black smoke and seized up. Now its decision time.... Rebuild? new motor? get rid of the turbo and go with a N/A mod engine???? what would you guys do? keep in mind money is definately a huge factor...

Rebuild it, of course. Pay very close attention to pistons and cylinders when pulling top end apart. This will tell you what happened. Detonation, oiling. etc.

I see in a previous post of yours that you could not find the proper fuel that you were looking for. Did you try to cheat and over boost the fuel you were running? Never a good outcome

Sorry to hear your bad news . :( Did your Det sensor go off? Just wondering as I had a burn down last year and the sensor did not go off?

no nothing went off just the egt guage flashed red at me and quit. I'm new to the m8 how are they to rebuild.... is there rebuild kits or anything that i could use??

It depends on how much damage was done. Is it a simple top end rebuild, or did it get the crank? The latter is much more difficult and expensive. You may have only damaged one side of the engine. New piston, rings, cylinder $400 US.
Per side. How much boost, and what fuel were you running, Altitude.

When you are tearing her down take pics and post them. There are many very good and experienced people on SW that can tell you why this happened by seeing a pic.

1250 is nothing, you didn't seize because of that. I run 1240 daily.

Pull your PV's & look in at the pistons, tell us how they look.

Top end is gravy on an M8, but I get a feeling you may have done more than that. Check the pistons & report back!

let me explain a little more lol..... the egt got up in the high 13**'s i backed off the throttle, stopped. dialed some more fuel in got on it a bit to check the temps, i was at 1/2 throttle maybe 5-6000 rpm thats when they got up to 1250 and the motor blew black.... i shut her down tried to pull it after 5 mins and the cord wouldnt budge

That seems like a lot of boost for av at 3500. I do not run a cutler, so maybe his kit allows that boost and fueling. I know my kit will not. As backcountry stated 1250 is ok wouldn't go any higher, but should not have caused seize.
Hope it works out for ya.

High 13's could be a problem. I know a lot of people run egt's, but my problem with them is many people say I run into the 14's and 15's
with no problems. There seems to be such a variance with them it is hard to give any advice. I would go to air fuel on the rebuild.
Just my opinion.

Dont' know how long you were at 1300* plus, but that is what did your engine in.

I let me wife ride my 900 cat turbo couple years back and forgot to tell her NOT to hold it in mid-range for too long. That's what she did, held it in midrange for about 2 miles before I was able to stop her.

I got on it, rode it about 1/2 mile, all seemed good, and then it siezed up. Take it for what it is worth.

8 lbs boost 3500 ft running av gas... and yes I will def post pics allong the way I know there are some very knowledgable people on sw.

That is too much boost at 3500 ft even for straight AV gas. At that elevation, you should be closer to 5-6psi max.

I think it would be more like a combination of a few things. Boost level, EGT temps, elevation, and fuel. Is it a pump gas turbo? Secondary injectors? I know race gas kits at that elevation that can run 10 pounds on AV gas. If you were using true race gas the temps would be lower allowing you to get away with your boost level at that elevation. If you are pump gas just running 2 injectors on AV gas your playing with fire at that elevation. cant trust a det sensor to save a sled its just not that fail safe?

What year is the sled?
