Secondary clutch question

On my 02 700 the little hole on the secondary clutch where the little tool goes in to spread the clutch apart, the threads have stripped and i was going to buy a new tool, i was wondeing if anyone knew what size of tap it would take to retap the hole.

double check to see if the threads in the clutch are not stripped. The tool is steel and the clutch is aluminum. it is common for the clutch to strip out. the end of the tool should have about 1/4" tip that is not threaded. We have ground those down in the past to make it work, but keep in mind there is probably not many threads left in the clutch.

you could always use a bolt of the same size to open the clutch or install a thread repair kit. sorry, cant think of what they are called. Any auto parts store should carry them.

I used a 1/4 inch bolt stuffed in a socket on the end of a cordless drill set on slow.
Lube the bolt up and start it in the metric hole and drive the bolt in, basically you are self tapping with the standard thread bolt.
Then you can use a 7/16 wrench to open up the secondary.

Later on BRP put a steel helicoil to make that thread stronger.
