Second Ride Troubles? Any advice is appreciated!

This past weekend I finally got to ride my updated sled, it has been over a year since it ran. The sled is a 1990 Indy 500 with a Xtra-lite 136 suspension set back to fit a 141x2 track and it has 7 tooth drivers. The first ride was around my yard and went very well, no problems except for a little rubbing of the lugs upfront in which track tightening will fix that. But then the second ride was more aggressive in which I was riding some pretty good sized/steep hills. There was about a foot of fresh snow, so not too deep. At first it was running fine, then it starting bogging down and was only allowing me to do around 15 mph, then it would pick up and run normal for 5 seconds, then bog down again. The engine sound like it was struggling pretty bad, I rode it like this for 5 more minutes until I could turn around and head back to the truck. I am praying that I did not do any engine damage (pistons and cylinders), but could that be an issue for me? Is this bogging a gearing issue? If so, can anybody recommend a good set up? I am back at school right now, so I cant look at my sled until spring break in a couple weeks, but any advice that I could do, whether it be gearing or even clutching is much appreciated. Thanks.

Ben

You probably have plugged up carbs from old gas. Pull them apart and clean them out. Hopefully you did'nt score a piston.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely clean out the carbs when i get home. I really hope that I didn't score a piston or a cylinder, but with my luck on this sled it couldve happened. Thanks again, much appreciated!

all indications point towards fuel delivery. Also check fuel flow out of the tank. Give the rope a few pulls, with fuel feed line off, check for consistent fuel delivery. In the carbs, look for stuck float, plugged or restricted main and pilot jets.

If you didn't get it too hot, and didn't run it up, too hard, the pistons are probably ok.
