Will a 09 Seat support fit on a 06?
I want to take off the wrap around seat support on my 06 and install a 07 - 10 style seat support. I've seen the ones on Skinz, but like the simplicity of the basic stock ones.

i believe the only dragon seat hat will fit are from the 07-08 dragons..the new ones have a smaller tank so they will not..

i will send you a link to one that "was" for sale (PM) ;)

Thanks for the link buddy.
So...am I to understand that in order to utilize the "seat post" style, I have to get a 07 or 08 seat and post? The post wont mate onto my 06 seat?

The story I heard from a post a long time ago was that the new support can be used in place of the plastic base, but you have to un-staple the rear of the seat cover in order to secure the nuts on the bolts through the plastic seat frame, then re-staple the seat cover at the back.

I don't know where that old post was from, but it was a while ago.....:beer;

BINGO...pretty sure that post was form me..its VERY easy to do...you can use ANY seat post..OEM or SKINZ...but the OEM one has a wider base and 4 holes to mount to tunnel vs SKINZ 2..so i would get the OEM one IMO...

DO IT!!!

Actually going to disagree with part of your earlier post... the 07 seat is basically identical, but the 08+ seat/tank are completely different, The 08+ seat is only a 'top half' when compared to the 05-07 seats and the tanks are different (slightly larger capacity).:beer;

Very possible... couldn't remember for sure.

I have thought about doing this mod myself, but I don't like how the tank hangs out from under the rear half of the seat compared to the newer shaped tanks... just not as clean a look at the rear 3" of the tank as the newer ones IMO....

so.....................I can use my seat and any OEM seat post?
and............if I decide to get a different seat it would need to be a 05 - 07 seat only to match my tank?

get the polaris under seat bags for the dragons..07 style..NOT the newest one...

they are awesome..lots of room, and they have wings that go up along the seat and will cover the fuel tank, and have velco that keeps the wings put...

if you need a pic, i will get one for you monday..its great IMO

you can use the SEAT POST for the DRAGONS ONLY...NEW or OLD i believe they are all the same for the dragons

yes on the seat from 05-07, but this is what i did..either use your CURRENT seat and get it re-covered or buy the SKINZ seat cover from Sledsolutions...they are sick...

i paid $150 to get th red strip removed and covered in black...yeh a rip off right..i should have spend $188 and got the SKINZ gripper seat cover..

i will post some pics in the morning when i get up...gives me a reason to work in the garage on another glorious day off...gotta love gov. work ;)

ill get lots of pics

The seats are basically the same 2005 - 2007 on the RMK's

You WILL need to unstaple the seat cover in the back and make a plate to attach to the backside of the seat plastic with threaded "nuts" on it rivit in place. to hold it when bolting.

I've seen many people just put a sheet metal screw into the plastic to the support... but this will not hold for much abuse...

The 07 seats have this backup plate... the 2005 & 2006 do not.

I used the Skinz seat support on my 05, yes removed the seat cover bolted right through the plastic seat pan then fit a Skinz gripper seat cover back on have 2 seasons on it and held up great. Thinking of changing over to the WRP seat foam/cover gain the 2” rise and having a stiffer seat foam.

I did this a while ago on my 06 seat, I used a 07 RMK seat base. I did not unstapple my seat cover. I installed 1/4"-20 Rivnuts into my seat base, available from NAPA or Harbor freight, works like a charm.

Like these, but I used a pull type for a rivet gun, they have many styles available that make removing the seat cover unnecassary.

The Rivnuts are a great invention.

But, IMO, with only the hook in front, the rear 2 fasteners are the sole support for the seat movement. If you take a hard side impact or land hard on the seat the rivnuts will, IMO, pull out of the plastic base... a backup plate like they used in the 2007 seats (same seat basically as the 2005/06) distributes the load over a larger area.

For most situations the riv-nut will hold... It is only the more demanding ones where they would tear out.

Just my 2 cents and not at all knocking the great ingenuity of AngerManagment... Great Idea!!

If you are really concerned, a creative set of "chinese hands" goes a long way. I was able to slip a washer behind the rivnuts on a buddies sled that we did this to. One set of hands postions the washer while the other stands by with the rivnut at the ready. Once its lined up, insert rivut and fasten it down before you lose the washer. Yet another option is to go with a much longer than needed rivnut and tighten it down to make the supported area larger.

And I wouldn't be to cincerned about pulling them out. My sled rolled down a hill 100' and hit a tree with the side of the seat. Rivnuts held wonderfully, no damage whatsoever to the seat or support. Side panel on the other hand, not nearly as tough. :)

What year of parts are needed to do a full tank/seat/console upgrade for the 05 900 Iq's to a later years? I am wanting to know the manipulation that is taken to fit these and make it run properly. Great thread.
